Here is a 10 dollar bill recovered in 1982 that had been printed in the New Jersey area in 1963 S20180310_0034.jpg S20180310_0035.jpg S20180310_0036.jpg .
I recovered it while working Racing and Wagering and the Secret Service stated that they had recovered the plates used to print the bills in 1968 and had believed to have recovered all the bills...WRONG.
The bills were being passed out in a super market in up State New York in 1982.
Who prints counterfeit 10 dollar bills??? Smart people because these bills were out for nearly 20 years and who checks 10 dollar bills???

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

Really poor quality. I'd have caught that in a heartbeat.

Sure you would have rickmp because you have a eye for detail...But the hundreds of shoppers in that large food chain market never looked at the change they were receiving and just pushed it in their pocket.
Housewives and factory workers just count it and shove it in their pockets or purses and that is why the 10 dollar bills were out there that long...and if it were caught they were out 10 bucks...a lot of money to some people.

Read about (or watch the movie about) Mr. 880 (Eight Eighty). 880 was the SS case file number on a counterfeiter in NYC who was passing out counterfeit $1 bills for years. Drove the SS nuts that they couldn't catch him.

What about all the folks making bills on the new printers in the 2000's and passing them at stores.

Sure who checks one dollar bills???
I have no personal knowledge of this but I was told by a FBI agent that when the US MINT started printing the "NEW MONEY". That could not be duplicated that the counterfeit money was on the street before the US MINT money was...???

Collectors and experts aside, people don't really look at the money.
It is easy to pass smaller bills.
The portrait ink seems very dark, and the green strip on the serial is odd.
A close inspection would show this to be fake, but 99+% of people just get this bill in change and put it in their wallet or bag without looking at it.
I'd like to see a photo of the whole note (both sides) if that is possible.

Super dark portrait. And the reverse green looks dark too.
Thanks. These are neat to examine.
