There's nothing possibly insulting about my post. I am anxious to see the photos and the weight. I would like nothing more than to see a 1944 on a steel planchet.
Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed the mods haven't taken this post down yet. Not very friendly treatment towards a new member.
Maybe, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt at the moment. Let's at least give him a chance before we tar and feather him...
Did you ever stop to think that maybe the new members DO come back and read the rude posts. Then decide not to post again because of them?
Well out of the 2 billion 1944 cents and the 39 steel ones, I would be thrilled to see another one. I was not extremely rude to the new poster. Like I said just anxious to see the photos and the weight. As a 50 million to 1 shot, I am a little skeptical. But discoveries are made every day.
Your are correct sir. Now think of how many more discoveries could be made if some members weren't so rude to new members trying to ask questions. How many new members were scared away that actually had a discovery or a rare variety like this one? Afraid to post photos or comment for fear of being attacked again. How many of those coins went back into circulation? How many could've help the new member out financially if they were in a tight spot? These are the things I think about when welcoming a new member with these kinds of questions. I can tell you that if I had joined CT when I first started collecting and got rude comments on my 1st couple of posts, I probably wouldn't still be collecting. I would have thought that a lot of people who collect coins are stuck up and rude and wouldn't want any part of it....just saying.
I agree that the chances of it being real are basically zero. More likely an altered 1943 cent or something like that. But this site exists as a place for learning. The post I was referencing by you didn’t make any mention of what the coin may be. It set your predicted odds that the new OP would return and or post photos. That is extremely unwelcoming to a new member. Why would someone want to continue posting here if that was the reaction to their first post. I get it “newbie” posts can get old when you have been here for a while. But if you dont like them then why not just avoid them rather than make unwelcoming comments.
You're right, we shouldn't be rude to new posters, and give them a chance. But anyone who's been here even a short time knows that this place is filled with drive-by posts by novice collectors who claim to have found an ultra-rare, extremely valuable coin in their Starbucks change. And they usually post without pictures, and don't appear skeptical at all. In fact, they often say things like "this is the real deal, how do I sell it for top dollar??" OP, if you do return to this thread you created, we welcome you and hope to help you anyway we can, but please understand the history and experience of these type of threads.
I agree. I'd also like to hear more about the source of this find. A draw full of old coins? From where? Whose collection, Grandma's? An old attic? Let's hear the story.
Hi All! I've been a member for just a few years and it has always been a 'given' that when you ask for people's help/advice you provide as much information as possible (pictures) for them to help. It isn't unreasonable to assume that. Us newbies should be able to roll with it. ...just sayin'
If you can't post pics with the post, then wait until you have pictures, then post. Wait until you "get home" and do it all in one motion. Where I work, if it isn't documented, it didn't happen.
Some members are just "rude" by nature. But all of us should think if such was said to us, would we think it to be rude? If even slightly so, it should be reworded or the person should move on for a while to a different thread, and come back and repeat. Thanks Jim
