1943 steel wheat! Found today in a bank box,happy birthday!

    It looks authentic, wear factor about AU55. Check the edges.

    You may already know...these planchets were cut out of zinc-plated steel sheets after the plating process. This left the edges suceptible to corrosion and they rusted quickly. The public didn't like them very much because they got confused with dimes and caused havoc with vending machines.

    But that didn't stop people from hoarding millions of them, and this is why they are readily available and have not skyrocketed in value.

    Still, one of the few, better circulation survivors. Nice clean coin, and....Happy Birthday! Welcome to CoinTalk.

    It wasn't etch a sketch,it was shaved magnet from one of those beard games.I really don't know what obsessed me to do this but it stuck right to the roll.
