I enjoy these reviews and how they show to beginning collectors that the TV shows aren't usually very honest.

I am annoyed constantly with these deceptive and overpriced shows and HSN is always on.

 

I ran how badly coins are overpriced on the HSN show past my sister, an avid HSN customer. It made her much more leery off their practices to the point that she stopped buying.

It was a small victory HSN won't even notice... buy I know,(and anyone reading this thread knows) and that is what mattered to me.

 

You can use one of Mike Mezack’s favorite catch phrases to describe Mike himself. He was never “made, intended, or released for circulation”.

 

Saw this on HSN over the weekend. I didn't know ICG was still in existence to give 4 free grading vouchers with purchasing this coin? And they were all sold out by the end of the show---amazing.

 

I’m joining you as one of those stupid nubes who purchased from HSN. I️ bought a 2017 S congratulations silver eagle as the first coin in my collection inspired by my two recently born sons. Have been a serious collector of sports cards and memorabilia all my life. Being a collector at heart wanted to get into something I could pass down or that my wife could doing something with if something were to happen to me.Though the coin is beautiful and graded as pf70 by ANACS I️ now know I️ over paid have since bought on eBay NGC 2016 gold buffalo $50 and 2017 gold eagle $50. Would love any advice on coins to look for 2018?what hold value? Does first strike, first day issue mean anything? Who are best trusted dealers on eBay or online? How do you know how many coins are released each year?

It’s been a while since the last installment. I’d love to read another. I know there are more coin tv shows out there. Absolutely great read.

 

Purchased a set of state quarters S mint (proof) from "HSN" in OGP. Everything looked good until I noticed finger prints on a lot of the coins. Go figure. First time last time for "HSN."

 

I know I have leaned a number of lessons the hard way.

 

I may have a bit of a jaded view of this. To me anyway (and I may be way off base) the mint strikes these bullion coins as a way for a person to store wealth. That wealth being in the form of silver bullion. They are attractive coins to view. However to me, it is a very limited customer base that is interested in "first strike" investor quality bullion coins. I believe the bullion coins I purchase in the $18.00 range (generally speaking) are every bit as attractive as a slabbed coin with an inflated value. Your piece will always hold it's silver bullion value. However I am a bit skeptical of any long term intrinsic or numismatic value attached to the "first strike" quality of the piece...... And I am the first to readily admit that I may be entirely wrong in my assessment.

 

As far as some business owners are concerned that is an appropriate profit margin and just good business! Not my opinion though! Those types of people are not to be trusted and are best avoided at all costs!

Well... I tried. Just can't pass on the businessman etiquette thing... Us business minded folks tend to get such a bad rap these days..... As a very ethical businessman, I am very in tune to the health of my company. It's health is directly correlated to the health and well being of those that work hard for me. And I take great joy in seeing my employees thrive. If market "A" is a $50.00 market and market "B" is a $100.00 market, I will likely court market "B" and allow Wal-Mart to court market "A"..... Granted this is a TV coin hawkers discussion, however the premise remains the same.... Personally I rank TV coin hawkers right up there with TV evangelists.... But hard working business folks working to generate a profit for the health and well being of their own hard working folks are what keeps the wheels of progress turning. And that ain't a bad thing.

 

I will never argue against that point.

 

The greedy types are not the majority thank goodness. It sounds like you have a business model that benefits all involved, good on you!
