Found this wheat cent while searching my hundreds of wheat's that father in-law left to me...It is not pretty I suspect it may have been in a fire or someone may have intended to damage it..?? S20180307_0035.jpg

That’s just odd. Last week somebody posted photos of a JFK half that had a similar “sand dune” sort of appearance. That’s just a mystery to me. Hope someone has an inform d answer.

It's some sort of Acid Chemical Damage.
    I have seen these before.

Well Randy..yesterday a retired PA Trooper friend of mine stopped by and I showed it to him because he had been a fire investigator. He thought as do I that it was heat related. However we are both far from being experts in coins...I think that some place in the piles of wheat's that I have there may have been a few more like this one....Thanks for your input.

Thanks paddyman, that probably explains why it is in a restricted area of the coin.
Heat probably would have just melted it into a glob....Thanks for not jumping on me for not having both photos in full view, I screwed up again and hit the wrong area...still learning.

I posted one of these awhile back and was told it was done by an electric Wire Brush. I tried to recreate this effect, and had enough results to agree
    with Fred Weinberg.

Thanks abuckmaster...Nice mounts you have on your wall...I hunted for many years and never came close to anything like you have in this photo.
Racks in New York and Pennsylvania tend to be much smaller than you have. However about 6 years ago Pennsylvania imposed a three point one side on all Buck and the racks have gotten much larger...you done good.

Sure looks somewhat like my post alurid, I suppose both you and paddyman can be right.
There must be many ways to damage coins and get like results..
    Thanks....

The only question I'd have about acid damage is that first, the banding direction is the same, i.e. Top Right - Bottom Left on Rev and conversely Top Left - Bottom Right on Obv (could be coincidence I guess); second, the width of the band is approximately equivalent on the Rev and Obv, and; third there doesn't appear to be collateral damage (similar) outside of the banded area on either side. While I certainly don't know what caused it (and it could very well be acid) the only way it seems that effect could be produced (within the parameters listed) would be to have draped an acid soaked, narrow piece of cloth over the coin. Would appear to be hard to do by chance, and if intentional, to what end?

    Exactly fallguy..."TO WHAT END"!
Why would anyone damage a coin??????
Not too many years ago people worked all week for a few pennies.

Yea they are just the 3 that fit in the picture . I have a sweet ten point swamp buck there too. All from CNY I used to be a good deer reader in the woods now I look at every buck under 150 class and say nope. Getting lazy.

My problem is that I got old faster than I ever thought I would and now have many rifles and bows collecting dust in my gun locker...Continue to have fun while you can.

You got me thinking. I’m going to try to replicate that coin Tesla style with one of these. We’ll see what the results are, give me a day or so.

I am wondering the year of your coin. Can you post an Obverse photo?

352sdeer...As I recall Tesla died under suspicious conditions...I hope it was not doing that kind of experiment.

Lol. I’m just going to run it on the old Ford 390 big block and see. No nefarious business involved. Thanks for your concern.

Forgive me, but an "electric wire brush"? Do you mean like a drill or dremel attachment, or....?
