What to do about Seller on eBay selling non-Wide AM Error Cents as Wide AM's!

Hey Folks,

I found an eBay Seller selling 22 non-Wide AM (regular Close AM) Cents as Wide AM's! What can be done about this situation? I am currently selling on eBay and check around to see if anyone is selling the same or similar items as they can and will have an effect on the sale of my items. This needs to be reported but I am in conflict as to what to do, since I am also selling on eBay and do not want to get hit by eBay for interference and get booted in the middle of my auctions. I have included the link below and even without blowing up the pictures, you can plainly see that they are not "Wide AM" Cents!

Please let me know what I should do!?

I sent the following message to the Seller through eBay's "Ask the seller a question" link and will see what response I get!

Message to Seller:

Hi,

I am sorry to inform you but all of the 1999 Lincoln Cents that you are selling on eBay are not the "Wide AM" Type 2 Error Cents! They (all 222, sorry that should have been 22) are just the normal (Close AM) Tyoe I Cents. On the 1998-P, 1999-P and 2000-P "Wide AM" Error Cents the "AM" in AMERICA are widely spaced and the Designer's initials (FG) are close (almost touching) the Lincoln Memorial Building. The letter spacing is not between the "M" and "E" in AMERICA!

I hope that this was just an oversight by yourself possibly due to the misunderstanding of the true "Wide AM" Errors and that you will pull the auctions or edit them with the correct information! I do not wish to interfere with anyone's auctions but at the same time, do not want someone paying for something that is misrepresented.

This guy is Funny?!?!?

In one auction, he writes "I'm not a grader, but I would say it would be a MS-63 0r MS-64."

but in another, he writes "I have seen a few coins graded MS-70 and I think this is a winner."

So which is it, he can grade high quality coins, or he can't???????

 

PS,, on his 2003 cent, I can see marks in the fields and I'm pretty sure that disqualifies an MS-70 grade, even if all the details are perfect, for which he has not provided a high enough quality picture to verify.

 

I reported every one of his auctions to Ebay. His feedback alone should be the first warning to buyers to stay away.

 

I think what you did is really all you can do. Hope he is just misinformed like you said, and not someone trying to cheat people. But there is no way in Neptune are those wide AMs. But I think you did the right thing. :thumb:

Not trying to cheat people? The seller had an average 2003 cent that you'd pull out of your pocket listed for $3000. Nowhere near the MS70 grade that he had assigned to it.

 

Yea, Ive ran into sellers like that before. And thats what Ive done, simply write a nice message to the seller and let them know that what they are trying to sell, is not what they have it listed as. Then I tell them I just wanted to let them know that I saw a problem and that I wanted to let them know about it so that they didnt sell it and run into problems later. And that everyone makes mistakes, so Im pointing it out so it dosent coma back and bite you in the end.

As far as the Seller being misinformed is apparently not the case! I received an email from another eBay member and they advised that they were taken by this Seller on several items! It came out well as PayPal refunded all of his money. He stated that the Seller was off of eBay for awhile but is apparently back and has stepped up her fraud to a higher level.

I took a chance that eBay would do the right thing and I also reported all of her 1999 Wide AM Penney auctions!

I noticed the $3000 MS70 2003 Lincoln cent is gone. It must have been removed from the listing. Now they need to get the rest of them off.

 

i saw the same ads on ebay ... all 22 1999 wide am's and they used the same picture for all of them..... LOL !!!!!!!

 

Sad that people are like that, I honestly can't imagine how someone could look there self in the mirror in the morning after doing something like that. "Buyer Beware, you're in for a scare"

buy it now was $450.!!!!!! If it had been a double die that would have been the deal of the century!!!!

If I like harshly cleaned overgraded coins, then yes it will be an addition to my collection. Man, this guy is really peculiar.

You all should see what thiis Seller has up for auction now! If anyone could ever make out that the 1944-D is a "D over S" OMM and the 1960-D is a "Small Date over Large Date" based on the pics, is beyond me! I can copy and paste the pics of the coins to my PC and blow-up the pics but can't give them an imagination!dd::rolling:

Isnt't XF a far cry from MS60 also? seems lke there are one or two other grades in there in between. lol

 

On top of that, on the IHC he says
"This coin will be an added addtion to your collection."

What the heck does that mean?
