Coin roll hunting found this 19 88 Lincoln penny with deep mirror finish almost proof like but no mint mark here's some pictures tell me what you think
Check to see if it has the " transitional design variety " . http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1988PRDV0061.htm
Ya know what's the most precious thing about that page, Rick? Bottom of the page - 2 reported to be in MS70 condition, raw, of course.
Rick, from his photo of the reverse it looks like it IS the transitional...larger, thicker letters of designers initials, G with serif... "Reverse of '89". Photo needs to be larger and clearer of the designers initials to be halfway certain barring holding it in our hands (with gloves, of course) ourselves. Spark
Photo has glare obscuring some elements but I see no wear, clean fields...MS63. Sorry, not "proof-like". A really nice BU cent. How did that happen? Not really surprising, though, since it only took 6 years to refine the plating process. Spark
Well, this one is blurry too, but it is larger and I think you could say it definitely is a "Reverse of '89". I've checked all of my '88s but no joy. Willy, you need to get a decent usb microscope. With help from Rick Stachowski, I have recently purchased one like he uses, a "Plugable" brand, about $37 bucks, free shipping via Amazon Prime. This will fix your picture posts Good lookin' coin!! Hey Willy. Nice album coin but not worth sending in as the spots will kill it. Reed and Sparkles the Unicorn.
I am new to collecting coins. I found this 1988 no mint mark penny yesterday. Even though it has some damage (drops sporadically), the lettering looks really good. What do you think?
Lots of miles on this one. Keep it to fill a hole until you can find a better one. Otherwise, spend it. With no close-ups it's hard to see any doubled die action going on. I see wear and post-mint circulation damage. Wear on hair, ear, eyebrow, bowtie, shoulder and lapel. You would need to post a close-up of the designers initials to see if it is a "Reverse of '89".
