Is this big news or "meh"? Starting May 2018 After 55 years, CDN is making a BOLD move. We're merging all our award-winning coin publications into a SINGLE "Monthly Greysheet" edition. Everyone wins! Every month, subscribers will get: All the pricing from all of our coin sheets in a single large-format tabloid Added price columns in nearly EVERY series Every one gets BLUESHEET pricing Every one gets CAC pricing Every one gets GOLDSHEET (modern China) pricing Quarterly series will be updated EVERY month All subscribers to the "Monthly Greysheet" will get access to wholesale pricing online and on our popular iOS & Android apps (spot-related pricing like Eagles and generic gold issues will soon be updated in REAL TIME!) Why are we changing format? There are several important reasons for this change, including: Popular demand. Readers can't keep up with all the different publications Confusion. There are too many publications issued at varying times for new subscribers to understand. Space. We've simply run out of space to publish all the new prices we've added in the last two years. Recently, we added Colonials and Territorial gold, but we don't have space to publish all the prices. Also, we can't fit all the grades we price. Frequency. Readers want to see early and Liberty gold coins priced more often than once every three months. How will this effect existing subscribers? If you are a current CDN Greysheet subscriber, you will be automatically be subscribed to the new "Monthly Greysheet" with the same number of months remaining on your subscription. You will get an email soon with specific information regarding your subscription. (Note: there is no change to Greensheet publication or subscriptions.)
For me, it's both "meh" and big news. It's meh because I've never subscribed. It's big news because this change might propel me into subscribing.
That is my exact sentiments also now it seems to be much easier to go through the different areas of Interest. And like yourself I may become a subscriber
thoretically it’s a good thing, practically it will likely be meh with the same pricing issues that have always been there
I wouldn't say "After 55 years," but rather "After a few years." The CDN underwent a pretty significant change when it was taken over by John Feigenbaum, even though the format stayed the same, not the least of which was the price, which was explained as being necessary to have more people working to make the pricing more accurate. I used to buy the occasional "7-pack" from them (recent weekly, monthly, 3 recent quarterly, greensheet, bluesheet) for about $20. This is no longer an option. Add to the current environment free CoinFacts, free auction research, free sold items search on eBay, subscriptions to CCE that dealers use (not free), there has to be a lot of pressure on CDN to remain both relevant and profitable.
I used to depend completely upon the Grey Sheet, both when buying and selling. In recent years its value to me has dropped considerably . . . first through its inability to keep pace with dynamic on-line pricing, and now, despite improvements in that area, due to the exorbitant price increase since the change in ownership. This move just wreaks of desperation . . . they are obviously seeing a substantial decline in subscribership.
I used to do the exact same thing as @messydesk. But as you said, there is so much equivalent info on line, it's not needed any longer. I also agree with @ToughCOINS that it may be an act of desperation. Maybe the days of the graysheet are finally numbered
I can't remember if they charge for shipping as I ditched it when it went to the $250/$500 a year model, but I'm thinking this move is just a cost saving move for them marketed as a great change for subscribers. Unless they bring the cost down significantly I think more people are going to keep moving away from it. There’s just to Many other sources now a days
