I won this lot in the last timeline auction. The price stung a little but I'm still happy with what I recieved. 4 are duplicates and I'll probably give away one. I had a long day at work, which is my excuse for the crappy pics. I will try and reshoot another day. The auction picture did not show both sides of the coins so it was a gamble The Cyzikus is'nt much to look and and I have a better so I won't been keeping it most likely. I was happy to get this one since I've been looking for a nice one from Nicomedia. I had assumed it was from Cyzikus. It has some silvering on the reverse, and a PO'd looking horse. This one is an upgrade to another Antioch FH, so I'll also will probably part with the lesser one. The next 2 are both Amiens RIC 48 and the main factor for bidding. I was hoping the first want RIC 46 or 49 (or Gallus, ric 47) but still happy. I like the long neck of Constantius II The other one from Amiens looks much nicer in hand, with a really nice solid patina. The "A" behind the bust is faint, but it's there.
I have none from Amiens and I'm glad you were able to pick up a few from that mint. It's always nice to add to or upgrade one's collection. Nice coins!
Dust and wipe "The Cyzikus" with soft pencil lead to improve shine! http://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/ftr.html http://esty.ancients.info/imit/imitFTRFH.html https://www.cointalk.com/threads/not-a-fallen-horseman-if-constantius-ii.292106/
It is not the number that counts. Randy has that wonderful spiral shield and a few other really great and significant coins. When someone writes the book on FH, they will be the ones on the cover. I still have a few including several coins most people would not buy (but Randy would). Amiens and Trier are my favorites even if the condition is not what would slab well.
Awesome coins!! Great information, especially the link to Dougs website. Here is one I bought for only a few dollars from JA awhile back.
Thanks all If anyone is interested, here is a link to my falling horseman gallery on forvm: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=3368 Thanks!. Doug and Martin also have excellent FH collections with many coins I'm envious of. A few of mine were Doug's We both have coins the other would rather own; I think you have more I'd want but I have more you wouldn't want. You have a fantastic collection Doug. Here's the shield Doug mentioned. Thank you! The feeling is mutual I find it hard not to look for Flavian coinage after you post yours.
