I was watching the Gorny & Mosch Auction. (I spent all my $ during those NYINC Auctions):(
So, up came a FDC Trajan Decius Aureus/ it hammered at 8K euros, under estimate, but I could not pull the trigger on it, since my budget was down to 2K euros. Then, in the Theodosius II offerings, there were 4 types with reverse (two Emperors sitting on thrones) Add more salt to my wounds, the first three Solidi were fast st. (almost mintstate) they hammered around 900 euros, the mint state example, I had high bid of 1200. But then it got bid upto 2800 euros (I only had 2K to play with) another loss. Not a good day:dead: I will see if I get strike three with tomorrows second auction.

I lost my target in Gorny as well - a beautiful example of the corn-ear victoriatus. I kinda knew I probably wouldn't win it but was prepared to bid high and make it my most expensive purchase to date. Unfortunately it went over double what I could bear.

I'm not broke, but apparently something was broken when I tried to bid in the G&M auction this morning. I patiently waited for the one lot I wished to bid on and when it came up I clicked the bid button and nothing happened. I clicked again and again, to no avail. I watched helplessly as the lot went moderately up in price and hammered for way under what I was willing to pay. In all the years I've participated in these auctions, this is the first time something like this has ever happened. And before anyone asks, yes I was an approved bidder with an assigned number.

For posterity's sake, here is the lot in question. I hope the new owner enjoys the bargain he or she won today!

OK. So I hope you (@panzerman or anyone else) dont take offense at what I am about to say. I think all should see the humor in it. My daughter is 12 years old. She loves money, or spending it anyway. For her it is a novelty. So this past weekend she had decided that she needed to buy a blender for making smoothies. OK. No problems. I ask how much money she has saved and she has indeed enough. Her total was $14.97. Her response to the clerk? Keep the change.

Wow. Three cents. I suggested she was a 'One Percenter' (in a loving and joking manner, as much as she can understand the concept). I mean, I grew up with nothing. A penny actually was someting, and when added together they amounted to actual buying power.

I never fail to pick up a penny when I see one and I also encourage my kids to do so as well.

How does this apply to the thread? Slightly I suppose. When one cant buy that FDC Decius Aureus there are always other lesser coins one can buy considering what you might have saved by not buying one or another coin. There will always be another auction, right?

I guess the one consolation is the fact that presently I have other irons in the fire, so to speak. But that Titus was a hard loss ... the last one I seen in trade was 5 years ago (Gemini X).

Once the snow melts, and my broken fingers heal....darn right, I will be out there working full tilt. This time I will control my spending and keep a nice reserve/ in case another deal like that comes around. What is really killing us in Canada, is our CRAPPY Dollar. All you collectors from US/ Europe/ UK are laughing all the way to the bank currency exchange office.

Yes, I have many. But I'm a specialist, so I would like to have all the variants of the type. RIC 871 is a very rare variant!
