I would like to purchase gold, but it is not affordable. I will purchase the silver dollars and clad halves.
Personally I have been getting the Queens Beast coins. The engravings are really attractive. I think they might make them with laser cutters now seems to be very precise.
Here's the thing though, if the mint doesn't sell enough coins to make back all their expenses first or the coin doesn't sell some predetermined amount the charity gets absolutely nothing in return. And going on recent charity coins it's very likely that the charity isn't getting a cent.
ALL of these will never see circulation. However, the huge support for breast cancer research (BCR) means the coin has a decent chance for success. Keep in mind 50% of the U.S. are women, and BCR support means men too (I don't know if 50% is accurate, but you catch my drift), just look at the NFL shoes, towels and mouthpieces. My Mom was a breast cancer survivor, I'll get one to honor and remember her. She passed away from COPD in July 2007 and I inherited about 500 coins that comprised her collection over 75 years. Morgans, Peace, all denominations. She was my numismatic mentor. Spark
This is for "Breast cancer awareness". I have to ask, is anyone NOT aware of breast cancer? And other than the words "Breast Cancer Awareness" on the coin just how do these coins increase our awareness? Especially considering that no more than a tiny fraction of the population will ever know about them? The ribbon? They have ribbons for everything these days. The butterfly? I really see no connection between butterflies and breast cancer, unless they get it too. And as Blissskr pointed out, if the coin doesn't sell well and the Mint doesn't make their expenses they will keep all the money that was supposed to go to breast cancer research. Wouldn't matter much though, anything this coin would raise would just be a drop in the bucket. Breast cancer research receives over $500 million a year now, and has every year for well over a decade and probably longer.
The Liberty Head design may have been stale in 1907 after ~70 years when replaced and the replacements may be amazing designs (they are) but still the Liberty Head coins were beautiful designs as well IMO. The $10 lib is up there with my favorite US coins and I know I'm in the minority but I like them better than the $10 Indians.
Flippers will probably do well on these, especially with the novel rose gold. I no longer buy anything from the US Mint, so it will not matter to me. Do any of you remember: That curved baseball coin will be so valuable every baseball player and fan will want one. That boy and/or girl scout coin will be so valuable every former scout and current scout will have to get one as part of their coin collecting merit badge.
I agree with you, the Coronet head design was beautifull, my favorites were the older 1795-1834 Turban Heads)
