They're trade dollars that were altered to literally be someone sitting on the potty.

Well.... I never knew. I know about hobo nickels. First I been introduced to this. It’s right funny, really... Thanks.

Seems like his particular artist had something to say. He replaced “In God We Trust” with “No Free Trade”. Wonder who he was grinding an axe with?

For what's it's worth, someone posted to ask about one within the last few days or so. Unfortunately, I forget the title of the thread but was a neat example iirc.

I know I saw it in a thread. Then I saw a post in the “want to buy” section. That was when my curiosity meter started pegging. I totally get it now.

    Haha... that is indeed it.

They're neat and are not strictly made using Trade dollars. However, kind of like the profane large cents where a certain reverse letter is altered, they can obviously be reproduced today.

I love them. I don’t have an image with me but I have a really nice xf 1870 Liberty seated on a pot $1. And she lost all her drapery too

I have several culls of large cents with the worst thing you can call a woman altered on the back. I had encased some large cents for a dealer and there were several in the coins to encase.

That's also exactly what I was referring to. It's nice to know I wasn't too vague.

I've seen this on Canadian large cents from the 1800's as well.

Haven't seen those. Those dirty Cannucks! Did they teach Americans a bad word, or did it come from their mother?

I’d love to see smaller denominations. All I’ve seen was dollars and a couple halves

Mostly the smaller stuff got made into love tokens. I got Courtney a nice seated dime bracelet
