Can a 2 dollar bill really be worth $10? This one was at a antique shop. But i didnt see anything special about it. Or is there a link i could look up just 2 dollar bills. Thanks in advance
Yes and they can go a lot higher. Value depends on many things. Condition, signatures, serial number, printing run, block, age to name a few. You can probably go to your local bank and get a mixture of used, circulated or near mint twos. I can in my area.
Need photos. Most of the common red seals are in the $5 range. But some are more. I wouldn't pay $10 for a modern 2 dollar bill. Generally, "antique" stores are a poor source for coins and notes. They may have old stuff but it is usually worn and over priced. Coins and notes are not their specialty. And they want more than they are worth.
Rob, best reference would be a Friedberg paper money catalog, or a Krause or Whitman U.S. paper money catalog. Regarding the one you saw: a picture would be most helpful if possible; or 1. what is the Series of the note? 2. was the Seal Red or Green? 3. if Seal was Red was it on the left side or right side of the note? 4. what's the serial number?
$2. Just taking advantage of the unsuspecting. Just because they aren't found in circulation much, doesn't mean they are rare OR valuable.
That's one of the reasons for the price. You can get lucky and pick them up at a bank if you look. It's just like CRH.
