Just wondering... Is there anyone that has a totally blank note/bill on both sides? Just the paper cut to a bill/note size and nothing printed on it? Please post or comment if you have knowledge in this area.
How would one know? After all, bills don't get cut until after the sheet has been printed. Theoretically, an operator could mistake a sheet as being ready for cutting if only printed on one side (blank side down), and the print on that one side could assist in authenticating the error. Unfortunately, stock cut to size could come from someone working at the source of the material, so the absence of print on both sides could never be authenticated as a product of the BEP.
An unprinted note note (except a 1.00) would still have the watermark and security thread and any error collector would want it whether it came from Crane or from the BEP. Both Crane and the BEP account for every single sheet of paper used for currency printing. Discrepencies in accounting for paper are investigated thoroughly.
Ever heard of mint workers smuggling contrived error coins out of the mint in the oil pans of fork trucks? Where there's a will, there's a way . . . I don't think one, if it ever surfaced, could be positively declared genuine.
Well, I know that if they can authenticate currency by checking red/blue threads, and watermarks for modern bills, I just wondered maybe somebody had one. And the security they have now can't possibly be the same as 100 years ago, so maybe there was one or a couple of who knows how many that made it out. If they can have blank stamps and blank coins, why not bills? Since I see some only printed on one side, I thought maybe - just maybe - there was a totally blank one that was authenticated.
I’ve seen many, and own a blank back (missing 1st print) error note, and have seen notes missing the 2nd print and still have the third print. I’ve heard rumors of a $10 missing both of the face printings, with a completely blank face.
There are many dealers who deal in "error" notes; However, I doubt any would be willing to attempt selling such an anomaly since it would probably be declared stolen U.S. property. Personally I wouldn't touch such an item unless I had a "get out of jail free" card signed by the President!
Also, someone buying/selling this type of error, you would have to be knowledgeable about the possible bleaching of the note.
