What's going on with this dime?

    20180302_075701-1.jpg There is a coin counter at a grocery store that I check for returned coins, I have found one steel wheat and 5 other wheat pennies in about 10 tries but yesterday I found this dime.
    Any ideas on what happened here? The tails side is completely normal so I didn't upload a pic of it.

    It's been machined on that side. Damaged/altered

    That nice little square at the bottom looks like where it was held, it may be solder or something,

    Welcome to CT! Looks to me like someone made it into a button or other jewelry item & it broke off. :eek:
