This is where years of poker playing comes in handy. Im actually surprised he bent that much, he obviously made a decent profit. The show was elbow to elbow yesterday. 10 mins after the doors opened at 10 am i couldnt believe it. Smaller show down in Cincinnati and it's normally not like that, maybe because of income tax season ??

You see, these three guys worked for, then bought E. Remington and Company. They made guns, sewing machines, and typewriters. Remington sold these 3 guys the typewriter division and they later changed the name to Remington typewriter company. Anyway under a big publicity stunt for Columbian Exposition, they purchased the very first Columbian Half Dollar minted, at the now famous price of $10,000. A great deal of money today, but much more in 1892. I have often wondered where that coin is now.

 

I had the chance to buy a raw MS PL Columbian half for $30. I passed for some unknown reason. Still kicking myself over that.

I was at another show and a guy was asking $1300 for his PL Columbian. He was a bit disappointed when I told him the actual market for such coins.

 

Nice job!! I bet that beauty would easily bean at CAC.

I love to haggle, the worst that can happen is the guy says no, so nothing to lose.

I think PCGS would have gone 65PL, but I have a belief that NGC is tougher on commems. I would get that puppy CAC'd.

I see the grade, but I was at 65 because the details are just so crisp and clean. The rev is OUTSTANDING.

That 1909 will not leave my hands without taking a trip to Cali for a reconsideration. Also, it's a normal 1909 and not the V.D.B.

I like it more knowing it's not a VDB. Those poor non-VDB's get no love they're the red headed step child
