BTW have you confirmed my call....? On the RPD.....I found a nice specimen of the variety on line but it wouldn't allow me to copy....
No dice, i thought FOR SURE when i found the image and then looked at my image. Came home and was disappointed, but, all is not lost. I swear, either this coin has some sort of doubling on all the letters/devices OR it has been struck twice!!! Someone REALLY polished up this die!! Even all the denticles, have polish lines underneath. Combine all that with what looks like a wire rim on both sides of the coin, and, well lets just say ive got more research to do on this coin!! Good catch though Paddy, it DOES look like it in the photo!
That is a very nice Columbian with frosty devices.. I can see this as a 66 fairly easily. Those fields are pretty reflective looking, but I don't think it quite got the PL designation. A star would certainly not surprise me.
Man that shows you how some photos are deceiving.....the 8 from what I'm seeing identical . Must admit the 8 and 3 had me totally convinced when I checked it against the CPG. Oh well ...but baised off the image I would of bet the house.
A bit of a history lesson on this piece. Anyone know how these 3 guys, William Wyckoff, Harry Benedict, and Clarence Seamens were somehow involved with it's release?
You guys nailed it!! This coin wasnt cheap but I used one of my old Jedi tactics on the dealer. He gave me a price of $400, i asked if he had any wiggle room. He said ok $375. I said let me mull it over. I will be back. I went outside had a smoke & researched like examples. I came back in, and said well, one sold about year ago for $300 so thats what i would feel comfortable paying. He said that makes ME uncomfortable, how about $350? I came back with the old - lets split the difference tactic- $325 (?) He agreed
