Hardly a commemorative. What is it commemorating? It is an advertisement, pure and simple.

Not interested. Only plus to buying this is a portion of the cost goes to the charity.

Not a fan of the butterfly on both sides and frankly other countries have done better coins for this. The rose gold is interesting, but not enough for me to overcome the negatives.

I think its cool that it's pink/rose gold. But I'm not crazy about the design, and I don't collect modern commems.

If I wanted to make a donation to a breast cancer charity, I'd probably just make it straight to them.

Political discussion is still political discussion even about coins, so stick with the coin itself and not any policies related it it. Thanks Jim

It is a dumb idea and political in nature I believe. How about one commemorating the end of the Soviet Union?

Here's an interesting note on the "rose" gold coin: it's 85% gold, instead of the usual 90%, and weighs 7.931 g instead of 8.359 g. That brings it to 0.217 ozt of gold, instead of the standard 0.242.

So, it's got 10% less gold by weight than a normal gold $5 commemorative. And yet, the pricing table doesn't seem to have a separate column for it, only the usual column for $5 commemoratives. Wonder if it'll have a special price, or whether it'll be the standard price, effectively increasing the premium? If the latter, will any of that surplus go toward the charity?

No, the premium to charity is clearly stated in the ads. It won't and never has changed based on spot or premium price.

The better question is, will its price on the secondary market change based on it's gold content? I'll bet it probably doesn't.

Not sure what you mean here. Do you think that it'll maintain that premium in the secondary market, or do you think it'll trend toward a price 10% lower than other gold $5 commems? (From what I've seen, most modern gold commems end up trading very close to melt.)

I think any other random gold commem will trade at a small price over spot. I think the rose gold coin, despite having 10% less gold, will trade at a similar price to the others because of the "cool factor" of the rose color. That is, I think that this coin will have a larger premium to spot than it otherwise would, because of it's unique color.

Why is Breast Cancer Awareness any more political than the Civil War 130th Anniversary, or Baseball Hall of Fame, or Boys Town, or Lions Club? It took politics on the part of someone or some group to get their design on a coin to be sold so they could make a few bucks. Commemorative coins are political in nature, so either they can all be discussed, or all banned from discussion.

They will be hot in the beginning like everything else, then in two years you will be able to buy them for melt.

No, the forum is about the coins, not the political reasoning behind the production and issuing of such coins. you can show the commemoratives , discuss their physical properties such as %of metals, date of issue, etc. But not such as why you think they should or should not be issued. That is not allowed, that is discussion of the politics behind the coin. If you want to do that, call your government representatives and tell them. If you don't accept that, then don't post and cause an action to occur. Jim

No problem - just bringing up the point that it is all politics - EVEN the design. So many great artists have had their works destroyed in their eyes, and sometimes vindictively by their associates (Barbers). I just want to point out that it can be a fuzzy line between what can be discussed and what will get you censored.

I think the extra cost is in the making up of a new non-standard alloy, which will require more work to get good alloy mixes, and extra refining costs for the scrap.

I’m not interested in this coin. I don’t find the design particularly inspiring. I’m interested to see how they look with the rose gold but I have no interest in owning one.
