Jersey and Guernsey are islands located in the English channel between Great Britain and France. They are owned by Britain but under old treaties, they can issue their own coins. Jersey 1/12 Shilling (Penny) 1945 - Liberation Jersey and Guernsey Islands were occupied by the Nazis during WW2 Jersey 1/12 Shilling (Penny) 1947 Jersey 1/12 Shilling (Penny) 1957 Jersey 1/4 Shilling (Three Pence) 1957 Jersey 1/12 Shilling (Penny) 1960 Jersey 1/12 Shilling (Penny) 1966 - Battle of Hastings in 1066 Jersey 1/4 Shilling (Three Pence) 1966 - Battle of Hastings in 1066
Cool coins! I don't have any from either of those two places, and I don't think I've even seen any in person. Really like the Battle of Hastings 1066 comemeratives. Supposedly it is due to that battle that my last name exists, although it's not 100% proven and convoluted even if it is!
Nice coins. It's interesting to have a collection of GB coins and to have similar designs from so many other places in the world.
1/12 of a shilling 1913, bronze, mintage - 204000. 1/12 of a shilling 1923, bronze, mintage - 301000.
Great Pictures & Coins What wonderful Coins, I think I have been living a sheltered life only considering US coinage. Thanks for the show fellas.
Realy lovely selection you have there :hail: These Islands ar Crown Dependencies and not a part of the United Kingdom not only has the right to it's own currency but it's own postal and legal systems Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, [Herm] and Sark make up the Channel Isles 1966 1066-1966, 900th Anniversary of the Norman conquest 10/- Ten Shilling William Duke of Normandy 1035-1087 (King of England 1066-1087) Queen Elizabeth II
I remember at my local coin shop a few years back, they had several rolls of these 1660 - 1960 1/12. All uncirculated.... I only bought a few for .25 cents US each. I wish I had bought one of the rolls...or more. Pretty coins, I especially like the Victorian ones. I havent any yet, maybe one of these days. Siberian man, 1/13 of a shilling... that's an interesting denomination.
I love coins from Jersey , They always have low mintage and are quite affordable even to the poorest of collectors. " I fall in this group "
My name is Gerry and I just found this website, because I wanted to check out a coin that really didn’t (and doesn’t) make sense to me. It is a “one twelfth of a penny” Island of Jersey coin that says “Liberated 1945” and the reverse side has Queen Elizabeth II head. Can anyone help with this, as I find the coin with George VI head but no QEII. Thanks
