You know, sometimes fate and timing work out just right. My son and me were just at the store picking up a few odds and ends for dinner and I go to check out, I'm already waiting in the cashiers line when the dreaded code 22 on aisle 4 comes up. My son says he's going over by the end aisle to watch the movie they had playing and he'd wait for me over there. I said I'll just go to that aisle anyway since I got to wait now anyway. I switch aisles, which is the self checkout aisle that automatically gives you your change back.I do my order and wouldn't you know it, it says please pick up your change up at the cashiers desk. ($2.52) I go to the desk to get my change and there is only one penny in her draw so she grabs a roll and cracks it open, my eyes lit right up as I watched all the wheaties just fall out! I told her right then I wanted them all, no problem, she just gave me a 2.00 and all the wheaties. (I told her not to worry about the extra cent owed) I also had her check to see if there were any other rolls wrapped the same, none, and the next roll she opened was all new 2007 shiney ones. Anyway, if it wasn't for a few acts of fate, (the dreaded code22, my son wanting to see the movie, the self checkout out of change, only having 1 cent in the drawer and not 2 ) I would have got nothing but my change and a bag of chicken wings! I had her give me the wrapper from it but there was nothing on it but a bank that isn't from around here, no name, nothing. I haven't checked the dates yet,(did take a quick pic tho) but there a at least 4 steels in it. As soon as I'm done here helping the kid with his homework, ( I'm typing this during math!) and find my mag. glass I'll check the dates and post them. Mattman
Ok, homeworks done, I found my glass (I'll be honest, I can't see the dates anymore with out it) and I'm going to post the dates in no order, just as I grab them. Misc. info - Bank name on roll is First union. Anyone know where it's from? store was Bi-Lo in Taylors SC. Anyway here goes.... 48-d 56-d 44-d 47-s 55 23 45-d 55 42 53 55-d 44-d 41 43 43 43 43 50 54-d 57-d 46 55-d 48-s 56-d 46-s 51-d 45-d 40-d 40 44-d 50 41-d 55-d 51-d 44 44 51-d 46-d 40 56 40 49 54-d 44-d 52 57-d 52 25 41 44-d Not too bad! 23, 4-43, 25. 1 of the 43 is the missing 4 variety. I'm guessing that maybe since there are so many mm's that maybe First Union is out west somewhere? here's a pic of the 23 & 25. I can't seem to get a good pic of the 43 for some reason so I'll scan it when I get a chance. Mattman
That is one sweet find. It also pays to just be observant (otherwise you may not have noticed they were all wheats and just got one wheat in your change).
(Misc. info - Bank name on roll is First union. Anyone know where it's from?) There are or where First Union Bank branches down here in Southwest Florida and the Miami area. I think they are part of Wachovia Bank now. I think the merger or buyout occurred about 2 or 3 years ago. Lou
Be sure to check the 44-D's for the D/S variety. Ever since I found one, the lowly 44-D is my favorite! Good luck- Mike
First Union was all over Florida and in Georgia at least as far north as Savannah (not sure if they were much west of there). As was mentioned I believe they were merged with Wachovia. Great find - glad the cashier wasn't a coin collector - that would have been rough to watch them scoop up the penny's and pocket them.
A friend of mines girlfriend works as a delivery driver at the local pizza shack. Anyhow. she told me how she went in to grab a pizza and one of the girls working was complaining about "Moldy Pennies". She said she thought that was weird but didnt think much of it, just went off and delivered her pizzas. Anyhyow, she went back to the pizza place to pick up more pizzas and the girls were still complaining about the "Moldy Pennies". So she looked to see what the moldy pennies were that they were all complaining about. Turns out the "Moldy Pennies" were steel cents. Alot of steel cents actually. She took homw 14 rolls and a partial roll of steel cents. And according to the girls at the pizza shack, they had already passed out about 4 or 5 rolls to customers.
