Hey Frank, What's a few Wise Guys (actually they weren't too wise) compared to Jimmy! Sure you might find a few or even a bunch of long gone Wise Guys but if you find Jimmy, then you can get some serious coinage for him. Who cares if the FBI has to relocate you to Barbados under the new name of Javier! Frank
Lets weigh the good with the bad here. Good: Forgive all my debts Move me and my family to a tropical paradise (I have visited there - it's nice!) Set me up with a dive boat to search old wrecks for lost loot Get away from the frozen NE Find some cool coins abandoned a few inches underground by said Wise Guy. Bad: Is the mob really going to worry about little old me? Digging in NJ is not sounding so bad
Frank & Darryl: Sorry, but this may be my last post. Yes, New Jersey is an interesting place to detect. I can't talk about it right now, perhaps in 40 or 50 years. But, hints: 1) Yes, the Virgin Islands are beautiful; 2) Nice to be paid for doing nothing, and that dive boat was a great idea Darryl; 3) Oh, and watch the Giants game on Sunday, you may see a patch in the end zone-- so, the story about Jimmy was true. 4) Take care, guys.
LMAO @ Jimmy Hoffa Matchbooks from the Macchus Red Fox restauraunt, Hoffas last sighting in Detroit, ( since closed ) still pop up on ebay now and then. And to think, I used to drive by it now and then, I should have stolen some ashtrays !!!
Hey Treas, Are you going to be the one wearing the famous red dress with the stain on it?:rolling::rolling::rolling: Frank
I live in Rhode Island and Ive scoped out some really nice spots to try with my metal detector. But the spots I know of are quite the hike into the woods. I know a spot where theres about 7 or 8 old foundation holes, but its atleast an hours walk one way. Me and my buddy went out there once, but broke our shovel like as soon as we got to where we were going. Its a nice spot, you can kinda tell how it was set up, alittle community out in the middle of nowhere. Theres prob more foundations that I havent found. And I have another spot thats alot closer and alot easier to get to. The only prob with that spot, is the fact that its an old cemetary. Ive always wanted to metal detect that but Ive always wondered aout the morality of that. I dont think its bad to do as long as I dont dig down more than 6 or 7 inches. What does everyone else think??? Is it morally wrong to metal detect in a historic cemetary if I dont disturb anything and dont dig deep??? All the stones out there are 1850 and older. some of the really old stones are weathered beyond being able to read. Its on my grandmothers property and noone else knows its out there. My grandmother never wanted to let the historic society know that its out there because they have the right to take the land and call it theirs. Not just the cemetary, but the road to get to it. Anyhow, does anyone have any opinions about detecting a historic cemetary??? Oh and a guy I know found a 1796 Silver dollar while metal detecting. That was in great shape too, prob grades VF
DJP: As far as cemetaries go, no, it is not illegal nor immoral to detect them. Just don't go excessively deep and you should be okay. Good luck.
oh really, because Ive thought about it alot and have always wanted to. Ive always had the feeling that my 1877 Indian cent is out there, lol. Anyhow, Ive thought about it for the last 10 years or so, since I got my metal detector. But I never have gone out there. But thanks, I just might have to. And I deff wouldnt go too deep. One reason I wouldnt, is I dont think thats moral. And the second reason I wouldnt, have you ever tried to dig in Rhode Island??? Its nothing but rocks. Lots and lots of rocks
ghost towns are the best places to go. www.ghosttowns.com has a complete listing of all the ghost towns known.
This guy has been detecting for years and the coins in great shape were found in sandy soil conditions, according to him. I can give you his e-mail address if ya wanna talk about his finds being real or not. I believe him 100%.
JimC, do you marks your spots with a GPS? I was thinking I should buy one just to tag along with me, can't hurt and alot of the newer maps give waypoints. Just a thought.
