A friend of mine has a lot of coins from his late father, and he was asking about value. His father would go to the bank and pick up rolls of wheat pennies, mark them uncirculated, and put them away. This was around WW-II and after. These are bank (maybe Fed) wrapped rolls (I haven't seen them yet). He has 50 rolls. If these are uncirculated rolls in the original wrappers from the 40's and 50's, what do you think they would be worth? I will be looking at them and post pictures, but not till next week. Thank you for any input.
They're worth about $1K per roll! Why do people ask questions like this and then say they'll post photos later? Are you a used car salesman? Chris
I would love to see the rolls with the bank logo on them (if there is one). I'm not sure about the 40's but the 50's might draw a little attention with the '55 ddo. Check the sold listings on ebay.
Each roll is going to have a different value based on the date and mint mark. The condition of the coins is also a big factor with the value.
Sounds amazing! As said above, the value really depends on date and condition. I'd love to see some pictures. Cheers.
My input is google it and you’ll know it’s that easy. Please at least try first because to answer your question I’ll just google it and type the results. Not happening this time. Reed and a not happy Sparkles
There aren't too many great dates in those years. Although a roll of uncirc. steel cents could be nice. What area of the country? Philly/ Denver/ San Fran? The Phillys will be worth the least unless there is a roll of unsearched 1955's in there. That roll will sell for a premium. But you would have to search it, just in case. But all of these coins in uncirc/mint state will have value. A roll of 1951-S, 1955-S or 1943-S in that condition would be valuable. Need photos.
I felt bad so I googled cent roll prices and 35 seconds produced this: Lincoln Cents Date/Description Grade Price 1941 D BU $208.00 1943 D BU $175.50 1943 S BU $286.00 1944 BU $32.50 1944 D BU $42.90 1944 S BU $88.40 1945 BU $84.50 1945 D BU $58.50 1946 BU $39.00 1946 D BU $32.50 1946 S BU $240.50 1947 BU $234.00 1947 D BU $39.00 1947 S BU $162.50 1948 BU $68.90 1948 D BU $136.50 1948 S BU $136.50 1949 BU $182.00 1949 S BU $104.00 1950 D BU $44.20 1950 S BU $61.10 1951 D BU $26.00 1952 D BU $22.80 1952 S BU $234.00 1953 BU $32.50 1953 D BU $19.50 1953 S BU $33.20 1954 D BU $19.50 1954 S BU $16.90 1955 S BU $21.50 1956 D BU $9.10 1957 D BU $9.10 1958 BU $9.10 1958 D BU $9.10 1959 BU $2.50 1959 D BU $3.00 1960 BU
I doubt the coins are brilliant uncirculated (MS 65 and up?) but anything is possible. Having been kept in the original paper wrappers there's going to be toning. Just because they came from the bank doesn't mean all 50 are brand new cents fresh from the mint. Although some could be.
Thank you for all the input. I don't normally post about things I haven't seen, but was trying to get an idea before I saw them. I will add pictures as soon as I see them.
