What ever all I know is a nine year old kid got ripped off and no one would touch that coin with a ten foot pole. Had to change it at the bank for 2 rolls of cents. Let me qualify this to say I had been buying cents from this guy for 2 years pretty steady. He must have needed to make rent or something so screw the little penny kid. Reed
[QUOTE="mikenoodle, post: 2996194, member: 307"....let's say you bought silver when it was on its last run up and bought at about $30/oz and watched it go up to $49, but then watched it drop to almost $16/oz, I can see that as being burned.[/QUOTE] Buy 1 oz at $30, ok it went up, you held, then it dropped to $16. Just hold it and buy another oz. Now you have 2 ozs. at $23 each. Buy another oz. at $16. Your costs for each of the 3 oz. is $20.67. You hold and wait until goes back up, It might be longer than you wanted but you should have learned from you mistake. You corrected it by averaging down. At $16 all silver needs to do is go up $4.67 to break even and that's a lot better than waiting for silver to go up $14 to break even. Don't panic. Don't over react. Be patient and think things through. You'll be better off in the end.
Looking at the historical history of silver since 1970, the price per ounce stayed under $2/ounce until 1973. So my comment was off since the bullion value was a "little more" than "well over". One of those look before you speak moments.
I have a few but never had an opportunity to find any while roll searching. I could use a leg up and would be way exciting for me and greatful
Except for the fact that I buy goods and services in that fiat currency and not silver. The one commodity that you quote is convenient, but compare the consumer price index for fairness. Inflation has been almost non-existent over the past 10 years, let alone as wild as you suggest. $32 silver was only 10 years ago. $48 silver was even more recently. (2009) A loaf of bread doesn’t cost half as much as it did then, so I don’t understand your parallel.
Bullion is a different story than collectible coins. Who’s going to care if silver bars are a little dinged upor have been dipped? It’s bullion and it’s all about weight when you buy or sell right? A 1oz bar is a 1oz bar and it’s worth what an once is worth. Reed
SBAs are a fun set. You can complete all of the circulated coins by asking every teller at the bank for them. You can also roll search for them as they will roll them with the golden dollars. SBAs were horded by many and are still being trickled back into the banks uncirculated. An uncirculated set can be put together just from teller searching but it takes a while as all mint marks aren't readily available in all areas. As with any series you need to learn the series before delving into purchasing coins. The 18 coin set includes all proofs and varieties of those proofs. There are sellers who claim to have the rare ones and are asking the prices for them, but as with other series, they aren't always correct. Don't hate clad coins for 50 years because you don't know the difference.
Reed: My comments weren’t directed at you as much as the comment afterward about, and I’m paraphrasing here: how does someone get burned on silver?
I’m just going to buy the proofs and their varieties in slabs the rest I’ll find the old fashion way in circ or AU condition as that’s what I know. Thanks for the advise I promise I won’t hate clads! Lol. Reed & Sparkles
Hoarding bullion expecting to weather a monetary collapse is a mental disease. 1) Its likelihood is about par with getting struck by lightning on consecutive days, and 2) Bullion doesn’t help you even if a collapse DOES happen.
It’s not monetary collapse they worry about its a zombie apocalypse! Lol. Reed, Sparkles and the Zombies.
Bullets not Bullion will keep you safe and help you to NOT be a victim. The idiots that don’t think so just look how quick riots and looting take place after a major sports team wins or looses these days. Can you imagine when the power is out for a week? Reed & Sparkles and anarchist!
Reminded me of a former coworker that was always preaching that the US currency was about to collapse and to buy gold. Another coworker got tired of his daily rants and finally told him he was investing in guns so when the dollar collapsed he go over and take his gold with his guns.
I’m a grade A realist is all. Take the cues that nature provides, most animals won’t attack or come near others that can harm them. If your unarmed and bad people know it you become a victim NOT a survivor. And like I said before it’s going to be a power outage or some other prolonged problem and not Zombies. Reed and Sparkles
The reason we needed more SBA's in '99 was cuz everyone was using four of them to a dollar. If you want another relatively small and more unique set, look at the modern commemorative halves. About $20 each (avg) in slabbed 67's, and they're more interesting (IMO) then the same portrait on every coin.
Inflation hasn't existed for 10 years? According to the warped way the government figures it. You been to the grocery store lately, or out to eat. The ink isn't even dry on the menu they hand you.
