I nearly purchased one similar, but it turned out to be a fake (I'm not saying yours is fake - I don't know).
Nice coin but I think the price is on the high side. A few nice ones ending tomorrow from CNG should go for under $300
I do not have that kind of money. What I do have is a swap- a coin I bought from the same dealer in 2016, for €450.00. I've sent an inquiry about the exchange. We'll see how it goes. One would think that a coin I paid them €50 more for might work. Again, we'll see. (More on that later, perhaps.)
PS- someone whose opinion I respect very much on ancients (who knows what I'm offering in trade) has already said he would "do that trade in a heartbeat". But he is slightly biased since he exclusively collects ancients and the coin I'm offering back to this dealer for the Nero tet is not an ancient (though it is quite old). Just thought I'd run this one past y'all.
Price seems high, voted no. Not sure about the details of the trade so I voted based on what I did know.
As Ro points out, a very similar coin sold in a CNG auction last year, $253 (with BP). Unless the coin your trading is only worth about that much (rather than the dealer's current asking price of ~$500), why give up that "equity"? If you love love love the Nero tet and no other example will do, then of course that's a different story. It's not a rare coin though.
I have one of those... I think it is cool: RI Nero AR Tetradrachm Antioch Syria 54-68 CE Eagle HIP Regnal Year 8 I like the SINISTER Eagle... Mine was way under $200 freight paid.
That's not in my opinion quite as nice as the one I posted, but I do think it's 80% as nice ... for ~50% the money. Thanks for this input, y'all. I am of course inexperienced with this kind of coin, so while I trust my eye for finding an aesthetically pleasing coin, I often have no firm grasp on what constitutes a good price for something less familiar.
