Here is the newest addition to my type set. It is graded by NGC. Please grade the coin, and guess the grade that NGC graded it. As always, your comments, both good and bad, are most appreciated. Have fun...Mike
I dont love the coin. For some the reason the toning on that dollar just isnt for me. But maybe for others. I personally would grade it at MS60. It just looks like there are way to many hits on the coin to be graded any higher.
That is a rare bird indeed !! Gorgeous color - I love it  As to grade, who cares when they look like that   But seriously, I would say the coin should grade AU55 because of the rub on the obverse and I think NGC probably did grade it that for the same reason. But the coin is basically MS, all except for the heavy rub cheek and jaw, or what looks like rub in the pics. But again - who cares, that coin is gorgeous ! Probably the best looking toned Peace dollar I've ever seen. Congrats Mike :thumb:
Pardner do you have any idea how rare nicely toned Peace dollars are ? I'd have given both legs and an arm for that coin when I was collecting. How often you ever hear me describe a coin as rare ? That one IS ! Oh by the way, I love Peace dollars in case ya couldn't tell
LOL thats what I was thinkin !!! But, I do have to say, I have never seen the " Raymond" toning on a Peace dollar Edit, Oh yeah, I'll go on a limb here, 62
OK - I'll grant ya, I don't get excited much anymore. But I used to, really. Used to all the time, especially when I found a coin I wanted. Go read some of my old posts from 4 or 5 years ago. Or those in the World & Ancients forum. When I found a new hammered gold coin - THEN I used to get excited :eat: But a massive heart attack, some major changes in life - those things tend to change a person. They sure did me. But this coin, this coin is special and it brought back that old excitement. I kinda liked it
Doug: I hope that you have the defribulator handy if you look at the coin again. I fully agree. Nice toning (original) on Peace dollar is very special.
I agree about the rarity of nicely toned peace dollars. They almost never tone as nice as morgans. I was also going to say MS64 because I didn't see the rub.
Glad to hear you appreciate the rarity of a coin that looks like this. :thumb: I've been on the lookout for a toned peace dollar for several years now... This coin was actually found by a friend while at Baltimore and sold to another dealer at the show. I caught wind of it, and asked they set the coin aside for me. The asking price is RIDICULOUS for the grade -- in fact this coin will have the higest "toning premium" of any coin I've ever bought -- but as you state, coins like this don't come around often, and when they do, they are rarely cheap. More on the coin later, after a few more have had a chance to guess, but thanks to all for the comments/guesses thusfar -- keep them coming!...Mike
Beautiful Coin - Love the colors! I am going to guess AU57. Like others have said too many contact marks for MS. Also looks like a little rim ding on the reverse at 11 o'clock? Again - like Doug said who cares when a coin looks this nice! Thanks for sharing...
That is a GORGEOUS peace dollar. I must say that coin has the nicest toning I've ever seen on one. Looks like an MS63★ and I wouldn't doubt that you paid over $300 for it. :thumb:
I think it's AU58 - light rubs, weak strike, fabulous colors. NGC Market Grading ? I'm going with MS62*.
Beautiful Peace Dollar Mike!! I'm going to have to say AU58 for my guess and I'll guess that NGC graded it at MS60.
