Nothing new here, just trying a new picture set up on my phone. It didn't turn out too bad, though not half as nice as some of the pictures on here, so I thought I'd share.

Looking good, how many lamps ya' got?

Just one plus the ceiling light. I was trying to position the one lamp better to reduce the glare. I would love to get a little light box but don't have the room for one. Nor do I have many coins worth taking pictures of haha :p

If you wish to use diffused lighting, simply use something on the lights you have (coffee filter, toilet paper, etc).

Thanks! I never thought of that. I will give it a try next time.

This and use some LED lamps, I find this very useful for my "what it really looks like in hand" pictures

Absolutely. However, if using incandescent bulbs, well, just be careful. ;)

There's all sorts of little tricks one can use to produce or improve their coin photos without having to spend up for specialized equipment. This can be anything from said coffee filters to using or reversing an old camera lens as a makeshift macro and everything in between. One of these days someone should put together a thread addressing the different options/possibilities.

Software, hardware? What you trying Frog, the results look good.

Except for the coin it’s a train wreck! You just sent that nasty old coin to me and I’ll send you a nice shiny new one! You don’t have to thank me it’s the least I can do buddy.

Photos look good to me. Great effort. But instead of buying equipment to take better photos try spending the money on coins worth taking photos of-as you said.

I was trying some new angles with my phone, stacking it on some small boxes to keep it more stable and then to keep the lighting from getting to bright to make the coin look blurry.

Well I only paid 1c for this one so I'm not out of pocket too much ;) 99.9% of my collection is from CRH so it is what it is. Can't afford the super fancy stuff. My wife would probably kill me.

Cool. I need to do that also to try to capture better images. I did buy a blue tooth shutter control and that really helps when you get it all set. With a selfy stick setup =$8.99!

I want to get a clip on macro lense also. I have a chinese USB scope but the pictures it takes are not worth more than the $15 I spent on it. No matter how well it's focused, they all come out blurry.

I have 2 of them. The one that I paid $150 more for, isn't too bad.

Try using early morning light so the sun isn't directly ahead, and won't leave shadows even though the lens ia right above. Look at my examples taken from my phone. Here's 3:
