how would you guys grade the Obverse and Reverse of my 1922? I've had it for a long time and pulled out my Peaces and this ones hair seems to be really detailed. Of course a lot of hit marks etc. phone pics ... sorry Thanks
I really like Peace Dollars so I have several. Even several slabbed ones a ANA-PNG 1926/MS63, PCGS 1925 MS65, PCGS 1923 MS63 plus others in 2x2 and a few 1921s. I had 2 x 1922s that were in really old flips. The flips actually were stained or whatever and the 1922s were dark grey, a few darker spots and the one cleaned on above actually had a black streak across it from the rubber band. So I cleaned it. Comparing it to the slabbed one or other one I see what you guys say it has "sheen" vs luster. I cleaned the 2nd 1922 not as much as the one above and it looks not like the above one but more like the slabbed ones.
I think the 2 I bought in flips that I cleaned I bought probably 10 years ago from a old guy in his garage sale. If I had more money I would have bought everything he was selling.
I agree with AU and a hammered strike. That flip looks like a PVC flip. If you have any others still in use get the coins out and soak them in acetone.
Nice Peace, the detail of her her is extra fine and the eagle feathers are well defined, too bad a vampire got a hold of her neck.
Nope. I was curious too as I just *wanted* them to be high relief. So to squash my desires I started buying 1921s, and was easily able to compare them at the same details.
I was thinking that, or the medium relief. It might be worth paying to send to ANACS for ID, not grading.
That's what I assume. I'm going through all my old coins from the 70s onwards and replacing the flips with current flips I bought last year or the one's Provident/APMEX ships coins in.
It was a transitional die between the high relief of 1921 and the lower relief pieces from 1922-35. It was discovered not too long ago. https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explorer/peace-dollars-pscid-50/1922-medium-relief-s1-ms-coinid-17386
