I feel like this coin could be a proof that's missing its mint mark. Looking at the collar and how well it was struck would you agree or do ya think it's just a normal Jefferson that isn't worth holding onto?
Sorry It is a business strike Phiadelphia. Below is a proof nickel. The features are completely different. http://m.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/4203
Before it goes to the coinstar this afternoon haha looking at it next to a Denver minted nickel from the same year the features on the coin look quite a bit better than a regular business strike
The 71 D has also been used in commerce more than the 71. There is no doubt that it is business strike. If you like it then put it in a flip, But, it isn't a proof.
You can get a 1971 Mint set uncirculated and Proof set for about $8 or so each which will help you in your comparison. You need to compare the "Circulated" ones that you have to the uncirculated coins for better accuracy and comparison. Circulated coins get wear and hit marks, etc. which degrade their overall quality.
San Francisco made both circulation strikes and proofs 68-70, what you need to look for is mirrored surfaces, and I am not seeing any in the above photos.
The 69 S in the middle row is a proof, the lighting doesn't show its finish but I was also trying to make a point. If I post a picture of a proof coin right next to the coin I was originally asking about and you don't acknowledge it but instead tell me what I "need" to look for I don't want your opinion. People! Stop being so quick to put your thumbs to work! Instead do your best to share your knowledge so that knowledge can be passed to the next person who needs it.
Tell us why that is a proof. It doesn't look like a proof. I see thin and not squared off rims, It doesn't show mirrored surfaces, nor a cameo appearance. What makes you think it is a proof?
So you purposely took poor photos with bad lighting in an effort to "show us"? Also, you've only gotten one response to your "proof" photo and @Pickin and Grinin did not say there was no proof there, but that he saw nothing to indicate that it is a proof coin. You're not here for a second opinion; you're here to have your assumptions validated. You're not going to listen to anyone here tell you it's not a proof, so why don't you send it to a TPG and prove them wrong.
And just like that @Ethan.Pitassi is long gone, from both threads he was participating in. I really had hoped that he would stick around. I wasn't trying to hurt anyone's feelings. Please post better individual photos of your 69S, because your group photo doesn't give it the credit that it should deserve. This forum is about learning, I was not tryin to run you off.
No guy.. I'm here to ask for input in regards to whatever it is I'm asking about from someone who actually knows what they're talking about. I posted quite a few photos, I have business strikes that have mirror finishes on them just like a proof so his advice while helpful wasn't exactly correct.. it's not my fault nobody takes the time to actually look all the pictures over before saying what I already know or just telling people they don't have a coin worth keeping because the more collectable coins found the more their collection decreases, and then we get people like you who think they're doing the right thing by calling me out for what you consider to be a rude statement but it was really about getting people who think they know everything to take a step back and think before they speak because I don't need 5 people telling me that there's no mint mark for Philadelphia, I'd much rather talk to the person who's like man that does kind of look like it could be a proof just like the 69 proof that it's sitting next to but it's not and here's the reason why it's not....
Come on paddy, some of us just like no value coins. Look at me I’m a flipping Lincoln nut, why? Who can say! Reed.
