Consulted variety-vista, cherry pickers guide, Wexler,s site, and Strike it Rich source .....so really enjoy these forums here and so hate to bother you all but once again I am at a loss (and still having a dickens of a problem seeing machine doubling).... Think I may have found a 1987 D mm error, and if it be so could somebody please tell me it's error designation. Compared it to all the above sources and it did not match any BUT many of the photos having the same designation did not match up either; or is it simply some form of machine doubling just there?
    please help

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

The plating split. It's a very common occurrence. It's not an error and has no value over face.

@Pop70 You are going to learn a heck of a lot by checking the variety/error sites. Even though you didn't find out anything about your coin, I bet you picked up a lot of information that will come in useful during some future search. That's the smart way to do it. Best of luck

BTW: Just remember, whenever you start thinking that you know a lot, something will come up that makes you realize there is still a lot to learn. I've been active in numismatics for 45+ years and this still happens to me regularly.
