Maybe I didn't do to bad, I finally had the time to sit and look a little bit. I picked up the JD Ceres #267 at max bid, it was my target, for some reason I thought I needed another JD. Then as I said earlier #279 just coz I wanted a Plautilla. I've tried unsuccesfully in the past.
It seems everyone got mostly what they wanted. I sure could've added a couple more but there's always another time,

I thought an Elagabalus AR Tet of Antioch would fetch far more than the $35 opening bid price. I figured I'd have to bid $150 or more to be sure I won it. As it turns out, I got it for less than half that, though I did bid my maximum.

I stuck to my usual strategy of offering my maximum bid early on, and it worked out pretty well. I won 3 of 4 coins bid on (2 Parthians and a Sasanian, which of course I will be showing off here in the near future). My only loss was on lot 151, the Tarsos stater of Mazaios, where I was the immediate underbidder. Oh well, that coin stays on my wish list for a while longer...

Each of you let me down. I won six lots but was counting on someone among you to save me from myself but we all found different lots attractive. I added one of the six when it appeared on his 'going cheap' list and I expected to lose more of the others. The only wanted coin I lost was 257 Lucilla. I was hoping someone here would post it. I guess what you are telling me is that I have no taste in coins. That is what makes an auction fun. Some may know I consider it unlucky to post what I won until they are in hand because of the three coins that never arrived in 2016 and my images may not look a lot like Frank's. I hope you will all post how you feel about the results after the coins arrive.
Thanks, zumbly, for the great statistics. The 16 lots with the double needed bid are particularly interesting for the 'What were they thinking?' game. I do agree we should not post our opinions calling people big spenders but I am, at least, glad none I won appeared on SA's list of noteworthy lots.
It is all fun as long as we are not playing with the money needed to feed the kids.
Probably, but it was fun while it lasted.

I bid on 11 but not too hard. I won 2 coins and a book lot.

Since this thread has taken on a life of its own it occurs to me there will be a lot of "hey, look what I just got" threads as soon as they begin arriving and people shoot their own pics.

I don't know, Franks pics are probably better than mine :banghead:

What type threads do we have besides "hey, look what I just got" ? What comes to mind are:
"Here is my fake coin, is it real?"
"I paid $100 on eBay for this unrecognizable lump; how can I clean it into a $500 coin?"
"Please give me a full ID for my coin so I can sell it for more on eBay."

I rather prefer "hey, look what I just got". Every so often we get posts that are really different and educational but what we have here is largely what we called "show and tell" in elementary school. What type thread would you propose we add?

Well, I may have been the first to post a new Frank coin. I had to show off my Florian in the old Florian thread.

I haven't posted anything yet, but I'll be guilty of "hey, look what I got" posts once the coins arrive in the mail and I've had a chance to snap some photos.

I believe the 4 coins have been shipped, invoice included, so I'm looking forward to receiving them. May everyone's shipments arrive safely!

Mail just arrived and it is not in it. I'm kind of far from Albany, though.

It may be unreasonable for each of us to expect a small operation to package and ship all winners on the first day. There must have been a hundred winning bidders ranging from a single coin to a couple dozen. A question for you: If you were running such a sale, how would you determine the order in which you would ship? Would you send out big packages to people who have been dealing with you for years and have good credit from prior sales? Would you send coins in the order in which you received the bids thus rewarding those who cooperated with your request for people to bid early? Would you ship groups going to the same state together? Just what would you do? I did not get mine today either and almost hope I don't tomorrow since the Saturday substitute mail carrier in my neighborhood is not all that reliable. Now I feel like I need to be home waiting nervously by the mailbox.... Is it here yet? Is it here yet????

I've been worrying about the same thing Doug. How does the poor guy manage to send out hundreds of packages?

Hmmm. Well, I do run a similar small auction venue (and, ahem, one is live now...). Hundreds of bidders and winners. So, how do I do it? I ship according to payment. I figure no matter how small or big you are, if you pay first you get first shipping. It doesn't matter if it is a $5 coin or a $5,000 coin. That doesn't matter. If you take the time to pay first, you will get the coin shipped first.

I know there have been some discussions in the past about auction houses and their time to ship. There are of course many issues which affect this, but I pride myself on shipping the same day payment is made. I figure it is not hard to bust my butt and provide the service.....ah. I guess my response might be construed as advertising. Not doing that. Just that there are many reasons...

What was the original question? Ah, yes.

    Answered, for me, anyway...

I certainly agree that the best answer is to ship in order paid but new technology makes that a bit harder. Paypal allows paying a second after the sale closes. That could mean a large number of ties in the race to pay early. I have a credit card on file with certain frequently used and unquestionably trusted dealers (I prefer not to deal with dealers that are not trusted, period). I once thought we in the ancient coin hobby had it good with all the really honorable gentlemen (and a very few ladies by proportion) who acted in the best interest of the hobby as a whole. That changed in the past couple decades with the Internet but there still are people I am glad to say conduct business on a absolutely ethical level. Waiting for checks to clear and wondering if payment will come should be a thing no one has to consider. Obviously, it is not. Even on the bottom of Frank' list:
