Took the new MXT out for it's virgin search today at the school yard across the street. 10 minutes later I had 36 cents and a billabong button. Yee haww, I think this is going to pay for itself, only $798.64 to go !!!

Yeah, thats my super organized desk in the pic too.

I hope you don't get discouraged with the meager find! Plan ahead by researching sites that may be good, work any of these in grids but don't over-work yourself to the point that metal detecting is no longer enjoyable. Also, remember that "Persistance is not Futile"!

    Are you crazy? LOL

I'm thrilled !!!! This thing is amazing, on each and every coin, it was exact: it tells you what and where !!! Quarter, 3" deep---right on, same with everything else except told me the button was a copper cent.

It was getting dark so I had to quit, I am sure this will become a rewarding hobby in itself.

My first find ever while detecting was a 1956 canadian cent coin.

My only "old" coin...everything else since has been clad, but i don't go too often

I think MA has some great hunting spots. When I used to live in Watertown, I took my (admittedly crummy) detector to a slightly wooded area in the main park in Watertown Sq. Within 15 minutes, I found my first ever Indian Head cent. 1903, I think. Of course, I found lots of clad, too...

Good luck, the MXT is a good machine.
Just take your time and remember to dig everything, and fill those holes.

Enjoy the new detector. It's got to be a great hobby. You get fresh air and find money all at once.

Thats awesome, I found a gold ring in the flower bed here at the house last summer messing around with mine. If anyone collects the aluminum tabs from cans let me know, I have a few of those too!

Have fun Jack, its a great free your mind kind of hobby. Its second to getting on a Harley and Ridin.

Hey noticed the Strike it rich book on the desk, did you get it autographed by Ken?

Jim, no, I bought the Strike it Rich with Pocket Change book from collectons last week.

Now the wife wants me to find a gold/garnet ring she lost somewhere around the house a cpl years ago. She was hesitant at first, but became really jazzed with the new detector after watching it in action, will probably want one too soon.

pretty cool!:D the only good stuff i have found was a 1957D wheatie and a pewter arrowhead necklace est:$35. i also have found $40 or so in common change. haven't found anything compared to jim, but it is still fun to get out there and hunt. you also get some nice conversations with people if they detect, or just asking if you found anything. alot of younger kids watch me all the time too, so its pretty neat. you can't win if you don't play! :thumb:

One of my brothers is going through a divorce. He recently threw his wedding band into a pile of leaves in a yard across the street from him. Later, he went looking for it, and never found it. I guess that will be at the top of my list of places to search, if I ever get my detector… :)
