As Walter Breen called it, the 5-Finger Word: G - R - E - E - D! They think they are getting something worth a fortune for next to nothing. They don't want to see if it is or is not real until after they win it so that someone else doesn't make the fortune.

The man had his issues, but he was a numismatic genius. I got to see him at work in Long Beach in the 80's. What a memory. These dealers were trying to identify a Connecticut copper when someone saw Breen. "Go ask Walter", one said. He looked at it, told them it was a 12-F or something, and sure enough, he was right. None of them had picked that combination. All this while looking like Jerry Garcia in a tie-dyed tee-shirt.

Jim apparently had a problem with me stating known facts about Breen. Interesting someone would have an issue with facts being stated. Breens made up numismatic lies are completely relevant to numismatics so is his criminal record that speaks to his character when he had a “career” where people were supposed to take his word for things

Thanks. I thought it was me because it as right after my reply, and I was starting to become self-conscious about it. I'm glad it was you.

Possibly he was referring to the obvious political post?

Please tell me you're not referring to the Ike pin.

We went and saw "The Greatest Showman" a couple weeks ago which portrayed PT Barnum's career startup. I mentioned to my wife that PT Barnum is used quite frequently on the Coin Forums as a reference to a "sucker born every minute".
Of course Barnum's scam was in people paying to "Look" whereas the fella in the ebay listings is simply letting folks "pay to play".

I have no idea how these oddities are created but they are definitely post mint, man made oddities.

What type of acid would affect the Cladding and the copper core?

Baseball, I had no reaction to his "lies" you reported. I removed because of the extent you pushed into his crime for which he served time, that was not coin related, and has no place on this forum. Jim

Beyond the fact that you're conflating two separate issues, maybe, just maybe, Jim doesn't want the thread to go down the path of discussing certain perversions? Sorry, but I've a very hard time believing he would take issue if we discuss only the validity (or lack thereof) of Breen's numismatic-related work.

It was, but I was wrong in thinking that that was Jim's reason for stepping in.

If viewed in context, I'm not sure how that could reasonably be considered political, but fair enough and thanks for clarifying.

Retired cop here. Go ahead and try to convince me that discussing Breen's crimes (PROVEN crimes multiple times, not speculation) as well as those of his wife, have no place anywhere. Perhaps it would be better suited to move that discussion to the "general" forum, but that sort of thing is nothing that should EVER be buried.
