Hi everyone, I have been wanting one of these since seeing one posted here. I finally got one. Really neat design I think. I can't seem to pin down the attribution though. Wild winds has similar types listed, but the horses legs look different. Closest I can come is Ric# VIII 37. Anyone know the Attribution? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to post your Divus would enjoy seeing them.
nice coin, like that obverse toning, looks like he is looking up at the heavens and they are shining down on his face, i like these also but only have, for now....
I like these and they easy to obtain. Constantine I Antioch mint 337 to 347 AD (posthumous) AE 4 Obvs: DV CONSTANTINVS PT AVGG Revs: No inscription, Constantine in quadriga with the hand of God extending out of the sky to receive him. SMALr in ex 16mm, 1.7g Ref: RIC VIII.539.12
The divus Constantine coins come in several flavors, below is another type http://www.constantinethegreatcoins.com/posthumous/ Constantine I posthumous issue A.D. 337- 340 14x15mm 1.5gm DIVO CONSTANTINO P; Veiled head right AETERNA PIETAS; Emperor in military dress, standing right, holding spear and globe; in r. field X. In ex. PCONST RIC VIII Arles 17
Beautiful coin! It's funny, what this hobby does: immediately when I opened this thread, Radio City Music Hall popped into my mind. The reverse reminded me of the Rockettes (seriously) & the obverse reminded me of the Madonna & Christmas pageant - we used to go every year when we were kids (1950's, 60's). Thanks for posting!
I'm glad you're enjoying that coin @old49er. It's a nice example. In mine, God seems to be reaching out to the late Emperor using a snow shovel.
Constantinople mint. When I bought it I did not realize the big selling point is the emperor taking the hand of God. On mine it is not recognizable... Divus Constantine I. Died AD 337. Æ. Constantinople mint. Struck AD 337-340. Obv: Veiled head of Constantine right Rev: Constantine in quadriga right [manus Dei above;] CONS. Ref: RIC VIII 37
Yeah, this one would make the LRB greatest hits list wouldn't it? Cool new ancient coin @old49er ! I have this veiled emperor version from an uncleaned lot I got when I first started collecting ancients. Not a great coin, but it does have a full obverse legend, which is pretty cool.
Nice OP @old49er ! Everyone has great Constantine DIVUS. I do not have Constantine I DIVUS, but I have his father as DIVUS: RI Constantius I Chlorus 293-306 CE DIVO AE Quinarius Thesalonika 317-318 Seated RIC VII 25 R5 RARE
