I recently sent in five silver coins of moderate value to CAC and two came back with certification. The two that got it were a little surprising to me, but circumstantially the best of the lot for me in that they both have low CAC populations. I'm pleased.

Here they are - my only two 1875 coins. The 20c piece is AU53 the chop marked trade dollar is XF40. The 20c looks a little better than the pics, it does have a lot of luster despite the dull gray patina, but a really good strike for the issue. The trade dollar is a type 2-M and seldom found with chop marks.

Which ones didn't pass that you thought had a great shot?

Here are the others. The one I would have liked to have passed is the 1840(O) (also xf40) which is a pretty scarce coin and this one looks great. The other two, whatever, I just threw them in - I didn't think they would pass and it's helpful in a way to have confirmation that they didn't 1840 (O) 50c NGC xf40 composite2a.jpg

BTW, good example of the different look of the 1838 reverse on the 1840 (O) vs the 63. I never saw them together like that myself!

I've always wanted to cherrypick a 1840 (0). No luck so far, though someone on this site did cherry one a year or so ago. Rough condition, but still valuable.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I am surprised they stickered a chopped coin. I didn't know they did that.

No offense, but I am not surprised they were not given a pass. All three have been cleaned.

I’m 0/6 on Seated halfs with CAC....

I just don’t think they like the series.

None taken. I agree. But in the case of the 1840 (O) it's a little less obvious so I thought just maybe.

It's a recognized variety by both PCGS and NGC now. I was hoping they would, as I think the coins is great and may be "original".
