Some really nice coins being posted. One of my favorites also. Here's my type 2 and my silver medal based off of the original design, and a photo of the original only known pattern.(Copyright@ Heritage Auctions) Also a couple of great links pertaining to the Standing Liberty. http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=7833 http://coinauctionshelp.com/Pattern_Guides/standinglibertyquarter.html#.WnckpCVOmhR
This was once my favorite but I have watched it grow darker over many years. These are new images by @messydesk He nailed the true look of the coin. It once had much brighter color and you could see the luster a bit better.
Get ready... My only SLQ and I paid out the wazoo for this bad boy. It's a type 6 with heavy recoil located at the Slippert box. At the 16 O'clock there is a extra half slide. And you can see massive refill along the entire rail guard. I paid $7.50 ha
so many dateless ones prior to 1925, although the mint marks survive - is there a method to 'raise' a worn off date a la buffalo nickels? I understand that due to different metals, the nickel trick doesn't work on silver - maybe something else ?
I don’t usually purchase coins from a photo. But I saw a 1917 Type I that I had to have. Received it last week and to my eyes it didn’t appear MS65 as labeled on the NGC label. Upon closer inspection it sat in the NGC holder lopsided...... I wish I could post photos on here. Does this sound like the earmarks of a counterfeit?
I purchased this coin in Annapolis at a small show, raw ,for $300! It was a had to have as soon as I laid eyes on it. Anacs gave it an AU-58 FH .....if every Au in my collection looked as good as this specimen does I wouldn't own a MS coin.
ANACS must have been hallucinating to drop your coin to an AU grade. They had this at MS62. It is clearly going to regrade at least that if I ever need it graded, so I figured there was no reason to keep it under plastic. Now it's raw.
