I have been wanting to pick up a 2007 14 piece proof set and have been doing a little ebay searching. I came across this sgs auction. I was watching it just in case it went cheap enough I might bid and pull the coins out of the holders. To my surprise with 3 1/2 hours left the bid is up to $ 38.99 for a set that to me is worth less than $26 because the coins have been removed from the original holders. It aggrivates me so much when I try to be an honest seller and get average or below prices and these crooks are selling average to junk coins at way above retail. I can't believe how many people do no research before spending thier money.:headbang:
From the auction: "In our opinion, these coins would be graded PR70CAM This coins are Guaranteed to be Authentic!" So they admit that ABON and SGS are the same? Ever since the new rules went into effect, Abon has eleminated the SGS out of their auctions, not the grade tho.
Yes, It is aggravating that they get such prices when honest sellers don't. On the other hand would you really want to give ANY of your money ot them? Even if it's cheap I don't plan on bidding. Let the fools throw away their money.
That is exactly what eBay requires them to do. A numeric grade may not appear in the title unless is has been graded by the chosen few and the rest of the graders are not to be mentioned anywhere.
caveat emptor not sure of the spelling, took latin about 50 years ago, but while I am always looking for a bargain, I am not in this for the short haul. I have never sold a coin and hope I never have to, if my heirs want to, fine. So I buy what I like, and sometimes I am certain I have overpaid, sometime underpaid. If you spend your money on ebay you are about 30/70 for getting overcharged. Look at bidz.com, Pres dollars, not even marked uc, are being sold for a minimum of $2.00 and I have seen them go for $5 and more, why, even Littleton is cheaper than that and they guarantee BU, MS60+. Barnum said it best, people like getting taken, then they have a story to tell. Have a nice holiday season, all.
Normally I would't even think about buying from abon. I thought mabey if I could get a steal....... I am back to my senses again and am back to not a chance of buying from them. I should just get on the mint web site and buy the set.
Next time that you have the desire to bid on SGS coins, just walk over to a wall and proceed to hit your head into the wall very hard. Do this until you knock some sense into yourself. That should work.
"At it again" makes it seem as if they stopped and recently started doing something again. They've always been "at it" and as I said in another thread, Ebay's new rules only affect how people view the descriptions and searches. The items are still permitted to be listed and sold.
What do you think they grade in at ? To me they look PERFECT (I am at a loss as how you could find higher grade examples), but I have no understanding of the american grades above MS-65. I know how risky SGS is !
With PR 70 you would have to have the coins in hand and use a powerfull magnifying glass to make sure there are absolutly no hairlines or marks and to see if it had a perfect strike. Pretty rare to happen and I am fairly certain all of those coins came from the same proof set. Extremely rare for 14 coins from the same set all graded 70. Sgs just buys slabbs and sells.
Hey, if anyone wants to send this guy a box of his broken slabs for Christmas, his address is listed at: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=5135&whichpage=1
That info, and much more, has been posted here countless times. If you are wanting to learn more do a search on SGS here on CT. Speedy
