I received a two headed Kennedy half dollar in my change. It is a 1996D. Does anyone know about this coin? It appears to be a real government coin not a gag coin. Thanks Randal
Welcome to Coin Talk Randal. It's a magician's coin, not a gag or a government issue. Check the edge and if there is a faint line all the way around, the coin it was made by milling two real ones to one-half thickness, and gluing them together. More likely, if you examine each side under 10X magnification you will find a faint line just inside the rim on one side. That's the more common method of making these items - milling out a cavity in one and milling off the edge and part of the thickness on the other, and then fitting one inside the other. They generally go for <$5 in a magic shop.
Hmm, probably is a magicians coin, but might too turn out to be a true error. Could you post some pics of it? BTW, welcome to the forum! Phoenix
there is no possible way a coin could get struck twice, with the heads on both sides. its impossible, its a majicians coin. you got a half in change btw?
Sorry, but it is possible. There are several that exist, and yes they have been authenticated. You can read about them here - http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=14339 That is not to say that this coin is real, the odds are a billion to one that it is indeed a magician's coin.
