Rick, i haven't gotten to the coin yet to take the closeups but here's an edit to one of the ones i already uploaded where i think I'm seeing the circle. Let me know your thoughts? Everyone?
OP I posted the site to check your coin against . Before you ever take a image of a variety coin . Match your images to the sites images . Then they'll be no mistakes on what you have . I know your equipment isn't good enough for closeups . So do the best you can . Practice makes perfect ...
Rick, I'm not happy with the outcome but it's all I've got for the time being. I'm not sure if i can say my photos match with the #4 reference pictures. Here are the pictures.
Everything looks good for number 4 .. Your is a later die state, then the one wexler has showing . Just remember always try to match your images, to the variety sites images .
Wow! Are you shooting with a dslr with a macro lense or what please share. I've tried numerous magnifier/microscope/zoom apps for my Android which takes great pictures with it's dual lense photography but i just can't get to the level of detail I'm setting in your pictures and others here as well. So, you're telling me my coin is a later die state of that wexler #4 reference? This is my first confirmed find, thank you very much! Do i just staple it into a 2x2 flip or do i need/want to send it into wexler's so they can document it and put it into some database or to a TPG service? Thanks again!
I really like that all the raised devices in the obverse look to be black in tone-is that what I'm seeing or is that a result of a filter or something? And the bubbles are those plating blisters? So that crack or blister running down the left side isn't required for the coin to be designated as a Wexler DDO-004? That's funny because if it wasn't for that crack or blister i don't think i would have stopped much more than a few seconds to look that coin over before tossing it into the spender/recycle to the bank pile never to look at it again!
I would put it in a 2 by 2 . Save your varieties and when you get 5 of them that matches wexler site. Then send them in . Why waste money on shipping just one coin . This is my setup . Here's the scope I own . https://plugable.com/products/usb2-micro-250x/ I can take color images and negative images too .. Those were taken in negative . Here's some color images .
Ya, those are plating blister on my coin too . Now you know how to match images to the variety sites . You should do good .
Rick, thanks for all your time and help, i really do appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me and also revealing your camera setup-i can't believe a usb microscope was capable of capturing such detail. What's that metal Cage looking thing used for in your photos, if you don't mind me asking some more?
@Rick Stachowski ...what brand usb microscope is that? I'm getting ready to buy my third one in 7 years. My first one was an Aven that quit working after about 4 years and my current one is a Brightwell that's acting flakey. Your pics are astounding. Spark
Here's the scope I use . https://plugable.com/products/usb2-micro-250x/ Here's what the stand is . https://www.dinolite.us/products/accessories/dino-lite-stands Mines the MS33W .
Guys i just purchased the jiusion usb digital microscope on amazon for $20. Reason i got it is it works on Windows, iphone, and Android! For Android it comes with an otg cable and i can use the microscope directly on the phone. Pictures from the microscope are attached and i couldn't be happier with them.Fyi, i didn't take a picture with zoom all the way in but it does get much closer than what I've got here. You'll have to download different usb cam apps to figure out which one works best for you. I went with usb camera app. Also, second reason went with this one is it comes with a solid metal stand that holds the scope firmly in place and it won't be tipping over. Did i mention the price? $20! Here's a link to the Amazon info: Jiusion 40 to 1000x Magnification Endoscope, 2MP 8 LED USB 2.0 Digital Microscope, Mini Camera with OTG Adapter and Metal Stand, Compatible with Mac Window 7 8 10 Android Linux https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WD843ZM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_tIqGAb0D5WDV4
Rick thanks a ton for the info links...are you using it with a computer and is it Win10 compatible? I did not see this mentioned, maybe I missed it. wait, just found it, good to go. Spark
No. Because I have 2 stands already that I use for full-size pics, but mostly use to park the scope. My problem is a flaky 1 MP Brightwell that has high magnification resolution issues; it stops working intermittantly and drops color to black & white or solid green. It is working now (past few weeks) but I'm fed up with it, hence my getting info on relacements. What is your benefit with your template? Light diffusion?
