What do you mean damaged? I know it's not mint condition. But is it worthless just because it was circulated?
First, to satisfy subsequent posters, I should have been more clear with my reply. Your coin is indeed "offset" as indicated in your title, and not off center. Offset dies and misaligned dies are exactly the same thing. Off center means the dies are aligned to each other, but the coin was not centered in the chamber when struck. As for the damage, the circular marks on the obverse of the coin (see the 3rd, blurry photo) relegate it to the less desirable pile in terms of collectible examples. Most collectors, if not all, will pass it over in pursuit of a better example. I'm sorry if my opinion disappoints you, but we're here to learn from you, and to help you learn as well.
Thank you I will probably hold on to it. Thoughi think my most interesting find yet was a gold dollar that was never sposta go into circulation pretty sure it's worthless because it has a good bit of wear on it
If you mean a circulated "gold" presidential dollar, there is no premium to be paid on that. however, if you're referring to a real gold dollar from the 1800's, that is definitely not worthless.
