I'm in the stage B camp on this one . Description: Medium spread East on LIBERTY, forehead, triple on date with the 9 having three tails, and strong doubling on upper Left edge of 9. http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1960DDDO003.htm I also matched some of the images to Coppercoins site too . http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1960&die_id=1960d1do003&die_state=mds
Can I wax a little philosophical on you, Rick? I GREATLY admire your ability to care about these minute varieties, you CLEARLY are more aligned with where this hobby seems to be headed than I am, and I suppose SOMEBODY has to do that, but I seriously can't imagine being interested in a specialty like this, no matter HOW much I might try.
It looks like you have most of the pick up points from the Copper Coin listing. I appreciate the detail.
Coneca calls it out and Copper Coins calls it a scarce variety, I suggest your example has a few unique pups that the Copper Coin does not.
You guys just ain't gonna quit it until you get me to dig out my 1960-D BU rolls, are ya'? Right after that, watch out for the locusts. Jus' sayin'. So if I were to find one of these, where do I get the coins to re-complete the rolls?
Their both the same DDO . Coppercoins images showing are stage A of Coneca listing . Easiest way to tell their the same . There's no die chip in the " R " of LIBERTY yet . The die chip doesn't start til stage B .
I have some more images I took . Here's one of the die crack running through Abe forehead . Here's a image of the die scratches show between the folds of the jacket and vest.
Here's another one I bought the other day . https://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-S-PRO...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Seller thinks it's this one . http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1971SDDO002.htm But it really this one . http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1971SDDO004.htm Here's the price guide on this one . http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/145438
I like your camera work and it looks like you are deep into all your research. The auction prices for a proof gives one encouragement to find one. All things considered, a population of 3 million is fairly small, so you made a good catch.
Picked this one up yesterday https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lincoln-Ce...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 It also carries a nice premium . http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=2011&die_id=2011p1do004&die_state=eds
That is some nice cheddar for the 2011, even in the lower grades. There has to be something seriously wrong with people who are up at three and four a.m. doing this. More COFFEE!
Honest, Rick, I'm having trouble deciding what impact you're having on me. This could go either way. Might "dabble" a little in varieties. On the other hand, when CONECA has their meeting this summer in Philly, I may be tempted to set up crime scene tape and wear a HazMat suit so whatever worm got into you guys' brains can't "get me". A full fumigation of their meeting room after it's over is a given. Thus far, through 20 plus years of ANA shows, I've managed to evade being infected by the VAMmer virus, but that's easier to do because they need "coin bearers" to carry their stuff and are easy to pick out (pick OFF?) from a distance. The monotone b-flat mantras deifying Van Allen and Mallis, along with the unblinking 200-yard stare are a giveaway too. I could NOT have said it better. Thing is, he was kidding, I'm not at all sure I would've been.
