I know the pictures are poor but I wanted to get some opinions on this dime. Just picked it up for what I think is a good price but I am interested in what you think about a possible grade. When I get it in a week or so I will post good pictures. The mint mark is D although it looks a little odd, I will be looking forward to seeing that up close.

    Thanks

I'd agree with VF as well. How much of "Liberty" is visable?

    Hi Guy,

Based on the photo's I tend to agree with you and Mike on grade. Until it's in my hands I will not know about Liberty wear. I will post clear pictures and then we will both know how much of the liberty is visible. The fuzzy obverse photo kept the bidding down (I think?). The detail that can be seen makes it look like it was well struck so I hope Liberty is clear even if a little worn.

    Thanks for taking a look.

Wow, nice dime! I'd go VF-25 on it, might have been possibly cleaned a long time ago at some point. But still a nice addition to any collection, very nice coin. :thumb:

Thanks Phoenix, The ebay photos didn't really show some of those tell-tale signs but I think you are right on. It's amazing what you can see when you blow a dime up to the size of a coaster with a nice clear picture :). I don't mind, it has a nice safe home now! Did find a couple minor die cracks too that add character...

It is a fine-12 at best.
To grade any higher your would need a full Liberty.
F-12 is full lberty, but weakin spots.
VF strong Liberty, all letters clear.

Thanks Frank - That is what the book says and I agree. I think it was easy to overgrade due to the sellers fuzzy picture and what seems to me like a good strike. It's still by far the best barber I have so that tells you a little something about the condition of my others . Good lessons for small amounts of money - never a bad thing!!! :thumb:

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Keep going on those Barbers.

I have a bunch of them, and the quarters are continuing to increase in value.

    This weekend I picked up a 1911 D, mintage of 933,600 in VG+ for $10.

    That was $5 below bid.
Trends is $19, and I got a heck of a deal.
However, even at trends, how can ya go wrong?
(under a million mintage under $20?)
    Also check out: 1911 S: 988,000 $7 in good.
    1912 S, 708,000 G= $10
    1913 P, 484,613 = $15 in Good.
    1915 S, = 704,000 = $9 in Good.

    Tons of sleepers out there.

And you should check out the mintages of some of the half dollars, that sell for junk (common) prices.

Now you are talking - you know how much I like Halves. I agree that the barbers in the lower grades do seem to sell at lower prices. I will keep my eyes open, thanks!!!
