To me it looks like someone hammered the edge. Or it could of been encased in a coin bezel at some point. IMHO.. Not a Mint Error
PMD so spend it. Maybe it will be found and reposted in a year or two by another new member. lol. Welcome to CT and enjoy our humor. It's a great way to learn.
It used to be popular to "roll" pennies. You would rotate the penny with one hand and repeatedly tap it on the edge with a spoon, A hammer was too heavy and hit it too hard. The edge would widen gradually. If you were patient and careful enough, you could spread it out into a long thin rod, hollow except for the center of the penny. My Dad was a Marine who traveled on several transport vessels in the South Pacific during WWII. He said the sound of bored servicemen tapping on pennies carried through the ship and drove the others crazy. He used to have one he rolled out to, I'm not sure, maybe about two or three inches long and about 1/4 inch in diameter. I haven't seen it since I was a kid and have never seen another. If any of you know of one, please post a photo.
I'm trying to recall the venue, but I recently was with a guy who had done the "ultimate" elongated cent. It was a Zincoln, and with some very expensive equipment at work, he had elongated it into a piece the thickness of foil and it was well over a foot long. Just remembered - Daniel Boone Coin Club, Reading, PA.
