I live in southern York County, PA. My mother in law owns the house which was built in 1822. We have found coins dated back to 1817 up to date. Mostly old silver and early copper. What s thrill it is when the detector goes off. Sometimes is new junk, other times YIPPEE!!!

That is some VERY interesting territory down there near the MD border. Very off the beaten track once you hop off I-83 and look around.

That would be awesome!! Imagine the history of a coin dated 1817. Of course it only spent 5 years in circulation before finding it's way into the house before being found again, but 5 years is a long time to build up history. Very cool!!

Are you suggesting lying fallow is somehow different from "history"? Interesting thought.

I feel like I drove a hundred miles just getting back to I-83 from Stoner's.

I see what you're saying there. By "history", I just mean the hands or pockets it found itself in and what items it was used to purchase which would be considered historical today. Bullets, a ladies hat, a saddle, or any number of things could have been purchased in that 5 years. As far as the history while lying fallow, you can only imagine the conversations that were had while it laid there waiting to be discovered.
