Don't worry about me . There's reasons why I always summons to look at varieties . My eyes still work .. Lol .............................................................................................
Mr. Eurotrash, Surely you've taken the time to familiarize yourself with what's really going on here before deciding to inject yourself into it, right? Am I correct in assuming you've dug through older posts to see exactly how many times the subject of my unforgivable "bullying" has mislead others, particularly those like you supposedly here to learn? Not doing so would certainly be more "troubling" that pressuring someone who regularly refuses to back up his often false claims, but I'm guessing you didn't know this little fact, did you? You haven't even been here a week and have contributed nothing of substance to this forum, but please, carry on as if you have the faintest clue about that which you spew. Unlike the gentleman you rushed to idiotically defend, any advice I've ever given here was made with my own money backing it up. If I had given you incorrect information/advice and it somehow hurt you, I'd make it right. Perhaps, hotshot, next time you should see how many others are willing to put their money where their mouth is before opening yours. "Respect", indeed.
It was my digging through your other posts that lead me to the conclusion that I would benefit more from your knowledge of coins than what you posted on here. For example, your post regarding the thread in which the op asked about buying rolls of wheat pennies for him and his son to go through. I found much more value in that post than the one in question. Unlike some people, I do take the time to research before posting. As a new member of this forum, I could have easily assumed that your post was the best you had to offer had I not taken the time to carefully read through others. Now, with that being said, growing up in the streets and being a ward of the state, I picked up some rather distasteful habits which would include a very poor vocabulary and an all around disdain for other people. 40 year old me chose to take the extra time to read first, while 25 year old me would have done nothing more than to tell you what I thought in a very innapropriate manor. 4 days or 4 years on this forum shouldn't dictate how you speak to other people. I'll include one last very important point. Just because I'm no longer a 25 year old violent degenerate (...), doesn't mean I've forgotten how to be. I choose to use a little more tact in the things I say and how I treat people because I wake up much happier in the morning.
If you've indeed dug through my posting history you should then know I'm not doing this for my health, but for folks newer to this hobby not yet able to separate the wheat from the chaff. Do you come here expecting to be misled by those presenting themselves as authorities, or is correct and proper information what you seek? Stop worrying about nonsense for a moment and take an objective look upon this thread. Perhaps you'll notice that the OP went out of her way to clarify that she is very new to this area, yet Mr. Stachowski would have us believe that her silence is proof positive that his attribution is indeed correct. Does this make sense to you? Let's take it a step further. Does inserting a few arrows on to a photo in any way prove his assertion? Did he ask for additional photos or in any way try to educate the young lady before stating, as if absolute fact, the coin is of his claimed variety? Again, does this make sense? Mr. Stachowski is fairly good with varieties, but for whatever reason he is also ridiculously over eager to "attribute" every other coin posted to this forum as being one, often when there's absolutely nothing suggesting even the possibility. When one makes a claim, the onus is on them to back it up. Intentionally or not, what he's doing is both misleading and unhelpful to those who don't know any better, but if you wish to fault me for calling BS, so be it. Perhaps, if so deeply concerned with feelings, you should stop for a moment and think about those on the receiving end of his often unnecessary nonsense.
I can see things from both sides and while others may not do this, I try to take bits of knowledge from those who have been doing this way longer than I have to create a solid foundation so I'm able to ask less questions and hopefully one day be apart of those who are able to educate others. Part of my growth process was learning to let bygones be bygones. While I'm not saying that tomorrow we'll have a sleep over and braid each other's hair, I don't see why we can't chalk this up to a case of the Mondays and move forward. Above all, I'm here to learn as much as I can so I can enjoy this hobby that much more.
Folks that come here are looking for correct information and that's what they should get. When a member keeps posting false information, they should be questioned. When you say a coin is this or that, you need to be sure. Bad information cost collectors time and money.
I definitely agree. I also think it's up to us as new collectors to not only be aware of the information given, but to read as much as we can so we have the tools to determine what's bad advice, and well documented advice. A lot of people are so quick to ask questions before doing any real research though and they tend to be lead in the wrong direction. And yes, others need to be mindful of what they tell new collectors because they're are lots of coins on places like Ebay that aren't worth the plastic they're held in. I have taken coins out of collection based on advice I've seen in threads from seasoned collectors.
I've still yet to see anybody prove me wrong on this thread . I'm waiting ......................................................... Words are cheap, so prove your point gentlemen ......
I'll post my 1984-D . Since I know the OP doesn't have to equipment to take these kinds of images . How do I know, because the OP has never come back with new images . And yes, it the same one the OP has ..
The OPs images are out of focus and can't be used to prove the variety. Your images are no better. It's not possible to prove anything with what has been shown. When you enlarge poor images, your mind can see all kinds of stuff. This is not the way to attribute varieties if you wish to be correct.
Rich, If that’s a legit error or variety, you’ve just illustrated why I’ll never care about errors or varieties. Too tiny to care about. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” It’ll just never get to the top of my attention pile. I’m now starting to “get it” that E&V is what is dragging new collectors into the hobby, but what I’ll probably never “get” is why. My suspicion is that it’s a YouTube-led phenomenon, and I remove YouTube from every device I own that has it built in. My contempt for the YouTube “culture” lies somewhere in the penumbra of “utter”, “complete”, and “maniacal”.
I find these in the change and there's no real money in them . But this a hobby for me, so I love to find this kind of stuff . This one is a class II with center doubling . That's why you see the split serif in the center of the lettering . Then I put my skills to work on E bay, cherrypicking .
Yes larry, this is the way to do it . All images are matched to the varieies site too . http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1984DDDR001.htm
I can answer the "why" from a new collectors viewpoint. About 3 years ago while remodeling an old house, I found a 1940 wheat cent, or penny as it were. I was fascinated by the fact that when the house was brand new (built in the mid 40's) someone dropped that penny into the newly built floor boards and probably never thought of it again. It stayed there until I found it roughly 70 years later. I have a 1928 wheat cent that my wife found at her pharmacy. How many pockets did that penny travel in before reaching my wife's hands? How many penny candy stores received that penny from some kid spending their allowance and what are the chances it was some soldiers lucky penny he took to the war in hopes of coming home? How much DNA was embedded into that penny before I took a wire brush to get it really clean (hehe, just kidding). That's what got me started and after looking them up, started finding information regarding errors and varieties. Finding a coin that is misprinted, doubled, off centered, etc is pretty cool, valuable or not. We all have our own reasons for getting started, mine just happens to be an accidental find in an old house.
Oh David, your profile says you are from Williamsport. You MIGHT be aiming too low. In Lebanon County, PA they’re finding pre-federal coins in joints of old houses, not dropped accidentally, but left there quite intentionally by our Germanic ancestors. None of that helps me with the error and variety fascination.
My brother found 25 grand, under his crawl space . It was about 1 ft. under the dirt . How did he find it . Was digging up a winter harvest of potatoes he planted ..
That's just a hop, skip, and a jump away from me. Williamsport has what is called "millionaires row" which is a neighborhood of gigantic old houses passed down from wealthy families or purchased by other millionaires. What I wouldn't give to explore the floors and crawl spaces of some of those old houses....
Sadly, my love for the spuds hasn't netted me one single cent. My daughter's mother found her inheritance in a cinder block wall dug out by her grandfather after being given instructions shortly before he passed away. Apparently, over a 50+ year time period, he had stashed away piles of cash in buckets and placed them in this hiding place he had created.
