Alexander the Great is probably my favorite historical character and the coin below is a bucket list coin for me. There might be nicer examples, but this one is mine, and I’m thrilled with it!!! It’s also the most I’ve spent on a coin and I almost threw up when I sent my bid.
I've got one, but not a lifetime issue. Those cost a premium. Looks like JA hooked you up! Nice coin!
Very nice example, congrats! Here is my lifetime tet from Amphipolis. Kings of Macedon, Alexander III ‘the Great' (336-323 BC). AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 17.00g, 9h). Amphipolis, c. 332-326 BC. WOW, Great job @GerardV ! Congrats on your Lifetime Issue. And, yes, you got it from the right source with @John Anthony ! It is a great looking capture, and I know you got it for a good price. Thanks again, everyone. @Sallent offered to help me find an Alexander drachma when I first started hanging out here. But, I won the Bag o Roman’s from @Deacon Ray and that scuttled it. Back then, I never thought a coin like this was going to be an option. In essence, we own history when we are the caretaker of these beauties for a blink of an eye in historical time. Tough to beat it. It’s nice to see everyone’s examples as well. Great stuff.
Congrats on the tet @GerardV that is a really nice coin. I wanted to bid on it and am really glad it went to a fellow Ohioan. All I have is a posthumous drachm. Alexander III AR Drachm, Magnesia mint, posthumous, c. 323 - 319 B.C. 4.225g, 17.3mm Obv: head of Herakles right, clad in Nemean Lion scalp headdress tied at neck Rev: ALEXANDROU, Zeus seated left on throne, right leg drawn back, eagle in extended right hand, long scepter vertical behind in left hand, bee right, spear head outer right. @GerardV now that you have your Lifetime Alexander III, you REALLY need to score a Lifetime Philip II. Alexander was famous for expertly executing PHILIP's plan! When you really read Philip's History, you REALLY begin to realize this man's brilliance, him being the true mastermind behind the destruction of the Persian Empire. I studied Alex in University, but the real story behind that guy was his awesome Daddy! (Mommy was a fruit-basket!) Makedon Philip II Tet Pella LIFETIME 353-349 Zeus Horse star spearhd Le Rider 102
