Found OLD GRANDDAD in a roll I picked up from the bank this past week.I can't believe some are still in circulation. There is something going on around the date I'm going to look at.
    Thanks for looking!!

Thanks,,needless to say I went back and asked for all the rolls from the same teller. They have their own drawer that they work out of.

    Thanks

Keep a good rapport with your tellers, ask them to look for old or strange customer rolls; when I find an old common wheat I put it in a flip and share with them, many have kids who collect. Remember what Bandit said: We are in it for the glory and the money, but mostly for the money.

Nice find! Was this in a CWR or BRW? I don't mind, personally, if the teller says they only have customer wrapped. I like ANY roll I can get my hands on!

McCann got a lucky buy, I only buy machine rolled pennies as I got burned with a box of customer rolled pennies, each roll was missing three to five cents and I ended up replacing almost three bucks as I don't return short boxes. Nickels and on up, I don't mind customer rolls as you might get a lucky roll. You takes your chances.

I was worried about that when I first started hunting cents. I guess it's a give and take. I would not be happy if I was short that much in a box. It all plays out in the end, I guess!

True, if you buy a few rolls and are short a couple cents, no biggie, but when you buy fifty rolls three time a week, it adds up. I just go with the machine wrapped in the boxes of Lincoln cents.

Cool. Another reason I like the bank wrapped boxes is that I deal with a small bank and the tellers have told me two other customers are box hunters, so you might get a box that has been gone through. Now find the one from the San Francisco mint.

I just ask for customer wrapped first and if not I go with BWR.

However you are doing it, keep doing it as it works.

The tellers from my bank put a check mark on each roll I return just in case I come back sooner than later. It's not a fool proof plan but it can potentially keep me from buying the same roll twice. I would love to find a 1909 wheat cent while roll hunting.

That sounds like a workable plan. I have two bank accounts, two different banks, not much money in them, I buy coins in one and return to the other and the bank wrapped rolls I buy, from either bank, come from a major city a hundred miles away, so any finds I make comes from the big city. Don't tell the bank, but three to ten clad dimes pass the penny sorter in a box, so they pay for my gas at the end of the month. The record is 29 dimes in a box.

You Don't Know Until You Ask!!!!!!!
I went to a bank today that I don't usually go to.I asked the teller for customer wrapped and she said yes, so I said I'll take five dollars worth, she brought the rolls out and sure enough folded ends, different wrappers just what I like to see.I asked her how many more customer wrapped do you have? She checks a book and said 182 more rolls!!!!!!!!! (Almost passed out)People don't really come in here for pennys they just bring them.I said I'll take all that comes in.I'm going to set something up with her to notify me when they come in.
    It's a good day!!!!!!!

Good luck on your roll hunt, if you don't have Variety Vista, Wexler and Copper Coin book marked, take a look. Wexler shows you the mint mark position for all of the doubled and rpms. I don't know what is going on with your 1909, but Wexler shows the mint mark well south west of the "0". Can't say what you have.
