Picked this up for scrap today and I think it may have a chance at a PO 1 condition. It's either an 1885 S or an 1895 S, they should be able to identify it. However, there has been a debate whether it will grade PO and whether it will get details. IMO I think it has a good chance at a PO 1. As for the scratches on the back I don't know, I saw another PO 1 example with similar scratches that straight graded. Any thoughts? If it does grade PO 1 or FR 2 in either date it will definitely have been worth my money, been trying for over a year to find a low ball morgan.

I would call it PQPO with exquisite smoothness. Be careful with those fingerprints now.

IMHO.. It does not look like natural wear. The reverse looks abraded.

    Yes, a fantastic distraction enhancement.

It won't straight grade due to the hairlines all over the reverse. Your pic shows them clearly near the rim.

IMO unless a TPG can ID the date it won't grade at all.
I believe a definitive ID is a requirement.

If I may, why is it still adorned with that sticker?

Looks like the original pocket piece. Lots of history there.

Scratches will keep it from grading. Put it in your pocket for another year and they’ll wear down just don’t lose the date

Well, no question an "S", would be cool if it was a '95-S .

It won't grade with that sticker glued to the back. Once that's off, it still might not grade due to those scratches. Maybe more like Fair..?

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Those scratches will give it a details grade. It looks like someone took some sandpaper to it to try to wear it down faster. I'd say try to smooth it out as a pocket piece, but those scratches look deep.

I do believe Mr. Bill is correct on the date. It appears to have a lot of natural wear but somebody got impatient and tried to speed it up.

Wondering why those scratches look so fresh?

Fr02 if it grades. The area at states is too strong

It is. Date and mint Mark are necessary for coins like that

The question is the 3rd digit. I assume this is 1885-S. In hand with a loupe it probably reads better.
Scratches and date aside, it wouldn't make a P-01 because there is way too much detail in LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. I agree with Cascade this looks like FR-02.

The top of the 2nd digit and the top of the 3rd digit look different to me. The top of the third digit looks flatter than the 2nd.
