I've got a strong suspicion I posted this CWT the last time the "anchor" theme came around, so in case it's a repeat, I'll also add a Canadian bank token with an anchor in the design.

    Another anchor.

This one is not mine... yet. But it might become mine within the next 24-48 hours or so, depending on the response to the email inquiry I sent the seller...

Let's tick off the boxes here. In addition to an anchor, we've got...
    • A classical nude? Check!
    • An awesome cornucopia (coinucopia?) spilling out coins? Check!
    • A handsome sailing ship on a wavy sea? Check!
    • An interesting and unusual wreath of cattails? Check!
    • A caduceus? Check!
    • Cool octagonal shape? Check!
    • Silver and decent-sized (36 mm)? Check!
Really, I don't see much to deter my pulling the trigger on this one, aside from the fact that it's "only" Choice AU and not quite Mint State.

    What do you think?

I think this is a "sexy" piece, and not just because it has a "nekkid lady" on it. ;)

(Oh, there's also apparently a bee hallmark and "ARGENT" stamp on the edge.)

Are we on Anchors? Or are we still doing Arrows or Anchors?

I'd say continue with anchors, but we've done that.

    Let's switch to scantily-clad ladies. ;)

Not necessarily nudes. Gauzy drapery works, too. Tasteful.

You know, that nice neoclassical or Art Nouveau kind of stuff.

... or, considering I just accidentally posted two cornucopias in a row without realizing it, we could go with that theme.

Scantily-clad ladies OR cornucopias, I say.

Extra credit for both on the same coin or medal.

This is my favorite scantily clad lady. Apparently her left breast is the highest point on the coin, as it is worn flat now. 1921 IT 20 c obv.JPG 1921 IT 20 c rev.JPG

It's official, now- I just pulled the trigger on that octagonal French jeton. It will be coming from France. I look forward to seeing it in hand. :)

Those are a great classic design from that high water mark period for art on European coins. I have always liked them.

I guess this counts in the diaphanous female category - 1929 British Trade Dollar. (Posted previously in Latest acquisitions I think.)

Just dug out this French Medallion - to their Fire Service I think. Not sure the women are sufficiently scantily clad, but a handsome thing nevertheless:

That's lovely. I had one in silver with the same obverse, though I can't recall if it was a similar reverse or not.

I propose the theme be amended slightly to any figures from the Art Nouveau era (ca. 1890-1910). Ladies in diaphanous gowns (thank you for the word "diaphonous", @PaddyB- I was fumbling to remember it earlier, so I just went with "gauzy"). Or nekkid altogether. Or not just ladies. People in general, let's say. Clothed or not. But with that classic, "Gilded Age" look.

So, 1890-1910 Art Nouveau people? OK with that?

When I acquired this one I did a lot of searching for a complete match. The obverse appears everywhere with a variety of different reverses. The reverse I could only find once, and then not with this obverse but a fire service shield I believe. So I do not know when it was made or for what purpose, other than generically for the French fire service...

It was the work of Oscar Roty, so I would imagine it is roughly contemporaneous with his iconic bronze minor coinage of 1897-1921. It's got "1890s" written all over it. (Just not literally.)
