Wow, such an amazing bunch of posts, thank you!!!

@TIF, your year 12 tet is stunning and one I always have a lengthy stare at when you post it. AJ's coliseum/collosseum is truly wonderful of course. If only it were an SA instead of a GIII! ;)

Two of the SA sestertii I've greatly admired on the board are the ones posted by @Roman Collector and @randygeki, both have eye appeal up the wazoo, I love them. Thanks, guys! (I'm hoping @Cucumbor will post his nice sest. with the black and green patina.) And to my fellow Canuck @panzerman, those two coins cannot be bettered. Just like TIF's tet, I've spend a long time staring at that aureus too. :)

@dougsmit and @ycon: coins of Sev Alex as Caesar are rare and special. $5 for the provincial is possibly the best deal I've ever heard of for a coin! My eyes are peeled to find anything like it, but they come up so seldom and tend to fetch big money. I had my eye on that Leu denarius, but wasn't at all surprised when it blew past my max bid.

@maridvnvm, I had forgotten that we share "first coin" emperors, very cool. (And now I see why you like Mars reverses too.) That is an incredible denarius for your first coin, I wouldn't be surprised if it is best-of-type. My first was a bit less impressive...

AE as, Rome, issued 231-2. Annona standing left, holding anchor and corn ears, modius at feet, RIC IV 647.

Therein lies the explanation of my fondness both for SA and for middle bronzes.

@Mat, that is a sweet tet with a great reverse type, and the end-of-reign denarius is awesome for the very reason you state. It goes with @randygeki's awesome sestertius, and here is the AE as version:

Who knows, he could have been dead already when one or more of these were minted!

LOL! Yeah... I didn't notice that minor bit of info, even with the attribution pasted below. :D

I'm going to change the post a wee bit :D

Happy Anniversary! It’s been great having you onboard and I’m looking forward to your posts and new additions this year.

I don’t have too many coins of Sevvy A, but this bronze from Alexandria Troas has always been one of my favourites.

@ValiantKnight, you are sure buttering me up, aren't ya! Hoping for an extra entry? ;) (That is of course my own SA tet he posted.) You should get an extra entry for the awesome Secret Saturnalia denarius you sent me!! (But no, I will stick to the rules or I might get in trouble. :sorry:) And I 100% forgive you for posting that other Severus, which is a truly awe-inspiring coin for me.

@Ryro, I love the dominating J. Mamaea arrangement there, and thanks for posting the excellent history, a much needed addition to the thread! I actually have dreams (merely dreams) of someday writing an historical novel centring around SA, and obviously the relationship with his mother would loom large. Oh yeah, and that colosseum sest is truly awesome, no? Another dream I have is of getting the AE as version of that... also merely a dream, I expect!

@Curtisimo, wow, I was not aware of that medallion's existence! Incredible!!! I will have to try to see it next time I'm in Paris (could be a while :(). And thanks @Ancient Aussie, I remember you were the first to welcome me to CT one year ago today. You need to get one of the SA architectural types!!

And @zumbly... what an awesome heroic bust on that Troas!!

I spoke of Q's beautiful sestertius above, but I just remembered... he also has a couple of SA issues from the Trajan Decius DIVI series. I hope we get to see those too. (Hint, hint @Cucumbor.) Boy, would I like to find one of those!

Anyway, all great stuff... keep 'em coming!

Thanks @Severus Alexander! Sounds like you already have an outline in your minds eye. Jot it down, chisel away and BOOM pretty soon you have a book. I'd buy it!
Um, yeah. Those 2 coluseum coins are A M A Z I N G! (there is another one in that article with a super green patina). The whole 2nd half of the article is about the colosseum (I would've posted it all but didn't want to take up that much space). I'm glad you liked.

Thanks for the sweet giveaway, Severus Alexander!

Also, thanks for the write up, Ryro. I didn't know much about the dude.

This isn't my coin, but I like it:

I have no Severus Alexander of my own, but if I did, it would certainly be this coin.

@Bing, that Sol denarius is SWEEEET!! I've seen you post it a few times and have been jealous each time. Talk about eye appeal!

The sest. you posted is an early issue, from 223. Here's mine, one of my favourite portraits from last year:

Thanks, Gandalf!! Love that fourrée, that's something I'm missing from my fledgling fourrée collection! I should really open up the contest to entries for Mamaea and Orbiana. In fact, consider it done... they count! (Still one entry per person though.) Here's my example of that Orbiana as (yes, you get the brownie points for that one!) It's the only middle bronze type in her name.

    And here's a Mamaea AE as I don't think I've posted before:

@Johndakerftw, I think you quoted yourself because that is an awesome dupondius! Great type, I would love to have one. Feast your eyes on this example (also not mine or yours, sadly):

And @Pompeius, yes, that is some coin. Maybe we can persuade @AncientJoe to pick one up so we have one in our little CT museum.

That aureus is one of my favorite ancient coins but only known in two examples. They're both pristine, though, which makes me hope they came from a hoard or that there could be more somewhere!

Happy anniversary @Severus Alexander ! I thought you had been here longer than that...I guess you just fit in here so well.

I can't believe I signed up here 5 years ago, kind of crazy.

I don't have much from this guy, but this rough sestertius is my favorite.

It's not a looker but it feels great in hand!
