I snagged this beauty for $35.00 today from the local shop. I have a feeling the VAMpires are going to be drooling over this lovely lady. Let's officially call them, @Cascade, @SuperDave, @Dave Waterstraat, @heavycam.monstervam, @messydesk if I forgot someone I apologize. I just could not believe I finally found one of these in the wild. I'd grade her AU-50 shot 53. Too bad someone dipped her not too long ago. I don't like the look of dipped low AU coins. But I'll take this one. :)

I like how you refer to the coinshop as "the wild", LOL.

Yeah, I was referring to finding the variety unattributed. LOL The "Wild" would have a different meaning in a roll hunting thread. :)

VAM 20! Congrats, big time! The dip doesn't look too bad, either.

Nice score. Now go find a 98o VAM 20 to go with it ;)

Now I have to go look that one up. ;)

Edit: Wow! I'm going to have to really start looking over those 1898-O Morgan's. I doubt I have missed one, but I don't really look over the dates to much. But, that would certainly be a nice one to find. :)

This one was on my hunt list for a little while. I was surprised to just stumble upon it with it being the only 1886 available in the case. But now @Cascade has put me on the quest for the Holy Grail of the '98-O VAM-20, of which I had not even heard about until he mentioned it here.

The hunting is the part I enjoy most. I enjoy finding it more than I do collecting it. Unfortunately it will end up being sold as I just don't have the interest in collecting them. But I do put the money into coins that I do collect. So it's a win win. :)

So I guess the question to ask here is... Do I send it in for grading and attribution or sell it as is raw?

Good luck. They're rare and go for hundreds in open bidding in low grade. AU is almost unheard of and BU is unknown, I believe.

98-O VAM 20 is peculiar for more than just the repunched date. The populations in the SSDC registry for this are mostly circulated coins, with only one uncirculated. 98-O is one of the most difficult Morgans to find circulated.

Did you bid on one of these a while back?

Yes. Didn't win though. Went for around $400 IIRC

I thought so. I just went back and found it along with the podcast of LVA discussing it. ;)

Are you guys referring to the '98-O or the '86?

Which Podcast are you talking about? Sounds like one I should add to my listening list.
